The Communal Place will be closing permanently on 27 Dec 2022 after 4 years at Joo Chiat Road. In an Instagram post, The Communal Place announced the news whilst encouraging patrons to come down and get a final taste of its food. The reason for the closure was not revealed.

As its name suggests, The Communal Place was born out of a longing to be a shared communal place for the Katong and Joo Chiat community; a place which provided the space to unwind and, of course, where you could get delicious family-sized meals filled with Western-Asian fusion food.

For starters, you could opt for Bouillabaisse (Seafood Broth) (S$23), Citrus Salad (S$14), Forest Mushroom Soup (S$11) and Burrata Salad (S$24). To further whet your appetite, there are sharing plates with options such as Mentai Spam Fries (S$14) and Foie Gras Bruschetta (S$28). You might also want to consider getting the more popular sides, like the Fish Taco (S$16) and Octopus Chorizo (S$18).

If you’re into sharing your food, the communal sharing plates should warrant your attention, with options like St. Louis Pork Ribs (S$28) and Porter House Steak (S$49). Those coming in a large group should consider the Sharing Feasts, such as The Gathering Set (S$120) and The Assembly Set (S$228). These sets include the best of what The Communal Place has to offer, with dishes like Truffle Fries, Pulled Pork Taco and Yuzu Chicken.
