The popular Chinese restaurant, Wan He Lou, will be closing its doors permanently on 22 Dec 2023 after 10 years of operations.

This news was announced via the restaurant’s social media on 1 Dec 2023. Wan He Lou did not explain the reason for its closure, but instead thanked its loyal customers for their “unwavering support and love”.

To commemorate the last few weeks of operations, Wan He Lou will be having a special promotion in which every second lobster ordered will be priced at 50% off. The promotion will run until the restaurant closes in late December.

Wan He Lou is located in the heart of Jalan Besar and is helmed by award-winning Chef Lau Siaw Dee. The restaurant is most well-known for its delectable signature dish, the lobster porridge.

The idea for the dish came to Chef Lau during a diving trip on which he caught a lobster and decided to cook it with rice and seawater. He realised that the fresh flavours of the lobster complemented the porridge well, and continued to refine the dish once he got home.
