Beloved dessert café, Wimbly Lu has permanently shut their outlets at 15-2 Jalan Riang and 166 Tyrwhitt Road as of 30 Apr 2023.

Treasured as pioneers in Singapore’s cafe scene, they served up amazing waffles, home-made chocolate desserts and other cafe fare during their 11-and-a-half year run.

Wimbly Lu had previously closed their subsidiary branch, Little Wimbly Lu located at 18 Greenwood Ave on 19 Jun 2022. To the dismay of many loyal patrons, they have also decided to shut their remaining outlets this year, including their original Jalan Riang store.

More than just a cafe, the brand was a whole enclave of its own. For those in the know, it was a second home and a dependable haunt to unwind at. From fond memories with loved ones to enjoying light and crisp waffles with decadent ice cream, Wimbly Lu was the hideout.

Many fans also loved their lemon meringue pie. Its recipe was perfected over the years by the different generations of Wimbly Lu bakers for the best meringue : lemon curd : crust ratio. I had previously come across their Tyrwhitt Road branch and intended to visit just for this special creation.

Apart from standard cafe food, Wimbly Lu also sold handmade truffles. There was a wide array of flavours to choose from, including classics such as salted caramel and rum & raisin.

In the months and weeks leading up to their closing day, their two outlets were met with waves of patrons hoping to have one last bite at their favourite spot.

I was saddened to discover that I’d never get to try the desserts at Wimbly Lu, which had been on my to-try list for some time. But for those who did have the chance to, cheers to the memories made cause memories don’t say goodbye.
