The 16-year-old noodle stall Yumen Hut in E!Avenue closed down on 5 Oct 2025 after being unable to meet its landlord’s renewal requirement for a full renovation.

The ill tidings first arrived when the restaurant teased a “painful announcement” in a Facebook post on 10 Sep 2025, followed by the closure announcement on 3 Oct 2025. Even though the closure was somewhat teased by the first post, beloved customers barely had any time to stream down for one last bowl.

In their tearjerking closure post, Yumen Hut expressed their gratitude to their customers throughout the years, hoping the spirit of their restaurant will live on. The 67-year-old owner later stated in an interview that the decision was a tough one, with the restaurant struggling to make ends meet as operating costs went up and customer count went down.
While Yumen Hut‘s closure is tragic, some may claim that it would’ve happened sooner or later. A look at the restaurant’s listing on Google Reviews paints a rather bleak picture of a slow, painful fall from grace.

At the time of writing, the restaurant has a grim 2.7/5 star rating. Several reviews mentioned that the noodles were expensive and tasteless, while others discussed that the manager had a bad attitude and did not even acknowledge her customers when they ordered. These reviews were made less than a year before the restaurant closed, which makes me wonder if there was a drastic drop in quality.

On the flip side, one user left a glowing 5/5 star rating a mere month before the restaurant closed. He was baffled by the slew of negative reviews, defending the restaurant by claiming the standards had not dropped. However, the poster also admitted that he’s a long-time customer of Yumen Hut, meaning he may have viewed the restaurant with rose-tinted glasses.
I do wonder if the criticisms were exaggerated or if nostalgia clouded the minds of those behind the positive reviews. Unfortunately, I may never know.
