Mookata, mookata, mookata. Mookata has been a big word in Singapore’s food scene lately. What’s even better than mookata (Thai BBQ), you ask? Cheese mookata of course.

Located in Geylang, Ladyboy Mookata is always swarmed with snaking lines who’d wait an hour or two just to try the cheese mookata. Tip? Always book in advance. Maybe even a few days in advance.

Ladyboy Mookata opened almost a year ago with one goal in mind, and one goal only: to serve an affordable buffet spread without sacrificing quality. The crew at Ladyboy Mookata sieved through several suppliers just to get the freshest ingredients, especially for their seafood selection.

Ladyboy Mookata also makes their own seasoning for their meat. Many of their recipes are different from other Thai restaurants in Singapore too. Especially their tom yum and milk tea.

mookata-

The Thai milk tea at Ladyboy Mookata is really fragrant and sweeter than your average teh ais. Compared to other Thai milk teas, this had the strongest tea flavour which is why I liked it a lot. The pandan Thai milk tea is also really delicious, very aromatic and not overly sweet.

The tom yum steamboat is a signature of theirs and it definitely captured my heart. It had a Malaysian twist to it so the tom yum is sweeter and thicker than your usual Thai tom yum at any other store in Singapore. The tom yum broth was really rich and super slurp-worthy when bubbly hot.

Finally, let’s talk about the mookata. Cheese mookata.

As mentioned before, Ladyboy Mookata only serves quality ingredients whether it’s meat or seafood and they give generous portions too. My favourites were the pork belly, pork collar and lamb.

The lamb is so succulent and when placed onto the grill, you’ll hear the glorious rhythm of the glistening fat melting away. Grill it till its slightly charred and you’ll have a tender slab of lamb oozing with juicy fats.

When dipped in Ladyboy Mookata’s Ladyboy cheese, you won’t say a word for the rest of your meal, you’ll just chew your heart out in peace.

The same goes with their seafood. Their prawns and jumbo prawns are so yummy and so fresh. As the owner of Ladyboy Mookata said to me: “Seafood cannot lie. If it’s fresh, it’s fresh. You’ll know it when you taste it”.

I knew it was fresh the moment I tried it. The jumbo prawns too. About the size of your forearm, this is a must order at only $1.90 more for one jumbo prawn.

Aside from the ladyboy cheese, you also have fresh mozzarella on offer. On the sides of the mookata, you also have the Korean-style steamed egg and some grilled corn. The corn was really sweet and complemented the smoky taste of mookata.

mookata--6

To round off the buffet spread, you also have daily specials such as tom yum spaghetti, pad thai, papaya salad, pineapple fried rice, garlic rice, glass noodle salad,  and tom yum fried rice. 4 of the 6 are served daily and changes day to day too. Nonetheless, you’ll be in for a good plate of carbs. I assure you.

The tom yum spaghetti was really delicious. Al dente, the spaghetti is doused in their delicious tom yum recipe, nothing could have gone wrong.

mookata-

Ladyboy Mookata adds at least 15 new menu items monthly so be sure to check them out from time to time. If you’re a fan of jumbo prawns, book a table for next month.

I would come to Ladyboy Mookata again, especially for some late night grub. The food is greasily satisfying and fresh. Perfect for supper. The buffet is also affordable. Perfect for students on an exam break or if you just need some food to eat away your work stresses.

Expected Damage: Mon – Thurs, Child $15.90 & Adult $29.90; Fri – Sun & Public Holidays/Public Holidays’ Eves, Child $15.90 & Adult $32.90
