While the recent tightening of COVID-19 measures has caught many of us unawares, the ones affected the most by the ceasing of dine-ins are food delivery riders, taxi, and private hire drivers. Referencing the upsetting viral image of a taxi driver eating out of his boot, these drivers and riders lack a space to take breaks and take their meals.

MPs such as Baey Yam Keng, Tan Chuan-Jin, and Yeo Wan Ling have taken to their Facebook pages to announce the unveiling of new areas in which these drivers and riders can rest and recharge in between runs.

1. Tampines

The area is located at Blk 475 void deck in Tampines N4 Neighbourhood Centre and near coffee shops and other F&B outlets with parking spaces.

2. Geylang Serai

3. Kampong Kembangan & Kampong Ubi

Other areas for riders and drivers to use include:

4. Toa Payoh East CC

5. AMK Hub Foodcourts (Malaysian Boleh & Foodfare)

6. Eunos CC

7. Kaki Bukit Community Centre

8. The Frontier CC (Pioneer)

9. Jurong Point Foodcourts (Cantine, Kopitiam & Malaysian Boleh)

10. Yishun (Bao Logistics)

11. Suntec City

Two zones: Food Republic & Big Appetite food court

12. Heartbeat @ Bedok

13. Elias CC

“Our brothers and sisters put in long hours on the road, and adequate rest, meal breaks and toilet stops are important to their physical and mental well-being. Therefore, the Associations will continue our work with the agencies, facility managers and building owners to set up a network of safe and comfortable locations for our P2P drivers and food delivery riders to take a break,” writes MP Yeo Wan Ling.

At the same time, MP Tan Chuan-Jin appeals to these riders and drivers to be mindful and to continue practising safe distancing. “Do also help us by observing Safe Management Measures while taking a break. Refrain from talking and mingling, please. And help us keep the space clean and tidy for others who may be using it too,” he writes.
