There’s one thing I truly love about living in Singapore: I’m always spoilt for choice when it comes to food of any cuisine I have a random craving for, and this level of versatility in our sunny island’s food scene is unmatched. Joining the unending slew of Japanese fare docking on our shores is Tempura Makino, a specialty tempura chain from Japan opening its first outlet in Singapore.

Guests can expect delicious tempura that’s made to order, and even watch the entire preparation process.

A la carte tempura will set you back S$1.50 per piece, but guests can take it up a notch with their Okinawan-inspired menu offerings such as Goya Tempura with Okinawan salt (S$4.50), or the Mozuku Tempura (S$5.80). If their variety feels intimidating, your can opt for Tempura Makino’s specially curated sets—Vegetable Tempura Set (S$15), or the Executive Tempura Bento (S$32), both of which feature a range of both plant-based and meat options.

Tempura Makino will also be offering Omakase Menus (Price TBC) in the upcoming months. Guests can expect a variety of premium and seasonal tempura, specially catered to our Singaporean tastes and preferences. The restaurant was established in 2006 in Harima-cho, Kako-gun, Hyogo Prefecture, and slowly garnered a reputation for providing quality good at an affordable price.

Their expansion to Singapore does not compromise on the quality of ingredients used—Tempura Makino Singapore imports and uses the exact same flour, dashi, Okinawan egg, and dipping sauce used in their Japanese outlets in order to achieve an identical batter that’s light and showcases the quality of ingredients. Guests can also expect free-flow homemade yuzu daikon every day, as they watch their food being prepared right in front of them.

Tempura Makino will be celebrating its opening in Singapore by giving out free tempura eggs to all patrons with any order from 22 to 24 September 2021.
