Growing up in Boon Keng as a boy, I have a strong connection with the various nooks and crannies of the area. However, there have been plenty of new hipster establishments sprouting up in the area recently. One of them is Ong Lai Gelato, your latest dessert cafe on the block.

Ong Lai Gelato is located near Boon Keng MRT station and you can find it nestled at a HDB estate in along St George’s Road.

The bright interior of the cafe is extremely eye-catching, especially with its vibrant pink and yellow walls. Other than some counter seats, only a few small tables and chairs line the walls of the cafe. Despite that, the cafe still gives off an extremely comforting and cosy vibe.

As you pass by the cafe, you’ll be able to see their large assortment of gelato flavours through the glass panel. According to their website, Ong Lai Gelato aims to bring to customers “gelato with the local flavours you crave”. Their long list of flavours includes familiar names like Milo Dinosaur, White Rabbit and Orh Nee.

Other than that, they also offer unique flavours like Ong Lai Tart Gelato, a pineapple tart-inspired gelato, and Kaya Toast, which is the perfect blend of icy kaya with a subtle hint of toastiness.

Each scoop of gelato costs S$3.50, making this one of the more affordable gelato cafes out there. Not only that, you can also opt for a Waffle to go along with your gelato scoops. Also, their Praffle (waffle-shaped prata) is a good shout.

Also, you can now enjoy S$1 off all takeaway orders of 2 scoops and above. This promotion will only run until 30 April 2022.
