Burger & Lobster‘s outlet at Jewel Changi Airport has been suspended until further notice following a food poisoning incident.
Six incidents of gastroenteritis were reported between 7 May to 15 May 2022, causing a total of 17 diners to fall ill after consuming food at the outlet.
Of the 17 diners that fell ill, four had to be hospitalised. One has been discharged as of 17 May 2022, while the other three are reported to be in stable condition, according to a press release by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
The press release, which was published on 16 May, stated that investigations regarding the gastroenteritis incidents were ongoing and that before the outlet can reopen and resume business, all food handlers working there are required to re-attend and pass the Food Safety Course Level 1. Additionally, the appointed food hygiene officer at the outlet has to re-attend and pass the Workforce Skills Qualifications Conduct Food and Beverage Hygiene Audit course.
The outlet also has to be cleaned and sanitised thoroughly with all perishable food items to be disposed.
Meanwhile, Burger & Lobster’s website has cited “technical issues” as the reason behind the closure of its Jewel Changi Airport outlet.
Burger & Lobster originates from the United Kingdom and arrived in Singapore in May 2019 after opening its first outlet at Jewel Changi Airport. It has since opened a second outlet at the Raffles Hotel, which remains open.
With its menu boasting a variety of giant lobster and burger dishes, it quickly rose to popularity.
We hope for the fast recovery of the affected individuals and that similar incidents do not occur again.
