It usually isn’t a good thing when horses are mentioned in the same bracket as food, but Farrer Horse is an exception. Launched on 2 Sep 2022 along Jalan Sultan, Farrer Horse is a gastro-cocktail concept that serves Asian dishes and horse-themed cocktails.

With its equestrian green and tangerine ornaments, Farrer Horse aims to bring back the good times when Farrer Park Racecourse was still around. Its venue, a well-preserved shophouse, is separated into two stories: the first floor is the dining room while the bar is located on the second floor.

Farrer Horse has gone for quality over quantity in its Asian-inspired offerings. For starters, diners can munch on Papad & Dips (S$14++), a basket of pappadams sprinkled with fenugreek and cumin. It is served with three homemade dips: zingy Raita with sliced grapes, minty green chutney and spicy Bloody Mary Salsa.

Those who prefer the novelty of preparing your own snack can opt for the Nyonya Pie Tee (S$16++) served in a DIY style. Fillings include braised turnips, carrots, juicy prawns and shiitake mushrooms.

For mains, diners can try the Otah Ravioli (S$28++), an Asian take on an Italian dish. The otah is made from scratch by hand-chopping mackerel and prawns with galangal, chillies, and lemongrass.

After filling your stomach, head to the second floor where you will be treated to exclusive cocktails designed by The Compound Collective. Every cocktail is named after famous racehorses and is priced at S$22++ each. Some of them are inspired by ingredients from a horse’s diet, such as the Secretariat, which uses hay-infused bourbon, is shaken with apple and maple, and topped with mint.

There’s even a cocktail made after a retired local racehorse of the same name: the Rocket Man! It balances the sharp taste of horseradish sugar syrup with the citrus of fresh pineapple, lime, and lemon juice.
