One of Chinatown Complex’s hidden gems, Nudedles.4, is set to close down permanently on 28 Jan 2023 after slightly over 2 years of service. Nudedles.4 is known for its affordable Italian pasta.
In a post on Instagram, Nudedles.4 mentioned multiple factors, such as rising costs and lack of manpower, as being the reasons for closing down. They also thanked patrons who have been supporting the stall and assured netizens that business will remain as usual until their closure.
The news was understandably met with many teary-eyed emojis and many stating their disbelief at the closure.
Helmed by one-man army Clarence Chooi, who previously worked at Michelin-starred restaurants Jaan by Kirk Westaway and now defunct L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon restaurant, Nudedles.4 not only provides near restaurant-quality pasta at a hawker centre but does so too at an affordable price.
He even had a collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Mirko where they had a pop-up stall at Nudedles.4 selling freshly made pasta from Aug to Sept 2022.
When we visited Nudedles.4 back in Feb 2022, we were impressed by the homemade ingredients and sauces and the owner’s ability to man the busy stall whilst cooking each pasta dish upon order single-handedly.
We really liked its Lobster Bisque (S$9) which was made with lobster broth using a mix of lobster shells and prawn shells. Despite not having any actual lobster meat in the dish, the bisque made it seem like it does with its sweet and intensely rich flavours. It also came with mussels, lala clams, prawns and squid.
Whilst it’s sad to see a gem like Nudedles.4 go, it’s imperative that we give our support till the very end on 28 Jan. Who knows, it might just spur a Nudedles.5 comeback!
