Ramadan is fast approaching and the bazaars at Geylang Serai and Kampong Glam are in full swing. But there’s just one teeny-weeny problem… it’s so far away especially if you’re staying in the north region of Singapore. Thankfully, the Sembawang West Bazaar Ramadan 2023 is taking place diagonally across Admiralty MRT from 20 Mar to 10 Apr 2023.

I walked around the area and to be honest, it was extremely spacious and comfortable exploring at 5.30pm (may not be the case at a later timing or on weekends, though).

The bazaar was split into 3 sections: food stalls, retail area, and the dining area with the main stage.

My stomach was beckoning me to grab some food and I happily obliged. My first stop was Kream as I haven’t had a hotdog in ages. I ordered the Mentaiko Dog (S$8) and the Flaming Cheese Rendang (S$8).

For the Flaming Cheese Rendang, the rendang gravy and the cubed fresh onions were served separately. I had fun assembling my coney dog. When paired together, the creamy torched cheese, aromatic rendang sauce and the mildly-spiced raw onions were a fantastic trio.

The indulgent Mentaiko Dog had an intense creamy and umami savouriness to it, and was topped with tiny strips of seaweed in the middle.

admiralty bazaar - lemang

My next stop was The House Of Lemang which sold à la carte items like Sambal Paru (S$10) and Nasi Empit (S$4). I decided to give the Lemang Set (S$15) a try.

It came with sliced lemang accompanied by copious amounts of serundeng (desiccated coconut), beef rendang, tempeh and tau kwa cubes. One word to describe it: shiok!

The stall also had a variety of Pau Besar (big buns), and I ordered the Pau Carbonara (S$2.50). I was intrigued by its tiffany blue shade. The filling which consisted of carrot strips, minced meat and button mushrooms tasted nothing like the Italian pasta, and it was bland. Bummer!

I also patronised quicky which sold a wide variety of snacks. That included Roti Kirai (S$4), Giant Squid (S$6) and Kueh Jongkong (S$3).

I bought the Tahu Bergedil (S$5 for 6 pieces) which were cubes of tau pok stuffed with spiced potatoes, and it was served with a spicy kicap manis dip. Delicious!

I also spotted loaded fries, lots of vadeh, nasi ayam bakar, sushi, tempura, Mediterranean kebabs and more.
