Treat yourselves into a seafood galore! Goldhill Hakka Restaurant 1997 has just reopened at a new location — New Upper Changi Road. They are located within New Gen Coffeeshop and have begun selling their famed yong tau foo

Their former closure stunned countless of followers as no other Hakka stalls offer a similar yong tau foo. Likewise, their reopening comes with great excitement as fellow foodies online rejoice in unison upon the continuation of their legendary dish.

Yong tau foo is a dish that is usually made with tofu stuffed with ground meat fillings and deep fried until golden brown.

However, their rendition of the Hakka delight offers a cleaner taste by using a generous stuffing of fish paste compared to the conventional meat-filled ingredients. As one who prefers soup-based dishes as opposed to deep fried ones, their Yong Tau Foo Set (S$6.90) definitely appeals to me.

The boss behind the brand has informed customers that a different type of fish is now used to create their signature fish paste. This resulted in a bouncier texture which complements the ingredients that are used as empty vessels.

Concurrently, many have shared their heartfelt remarks on their downsizing challenges over the years. However, others are grateful that they have decided to continue business despite functioning in a smaller space today.

Other must-get items which will be launched later in their opening include the lesser-found Yu Sheng (S$12 for small) and Abacus Seed (S$5 for 10 pieces). The former is essentially a dish made with raw fish that is seasoned with soy sauce, sesame oil and sliced ginger.

While the new business is now operated by the former boss’ nephews, there has been no change in the recipes used for all their dishes. I simply cannot wait to pay Goldhill Hakka Restaurant 1997 a visit soon!
