If you’re a fan of Western food with a slight twist, why not swing by Balestier Food Centre and check out Kinta Hainanese Chop & Rice? This fairly new hawker stall, which opened less than 2 months ago, is owned by 40-year-old Isaac Fong from Ipoh, Malaysia.

Before Isaac arrived in Singapore in 2008, he previously sought an apprenticeship with a Hainanese Chef. His mentor was the owner of a Hainanese Western food stall located at the now-defunct Super Kinta departmental stall, Ipoh Town‘s first mall, built in 1980.

After perfecting his culinary skills, he worked in the F&B industry before deciding to return to Ipoh in 2012 to set up his own Hainanese Western stall there. Unfortunately, after just 6 months of operations, Isaac, devoid of business experience, was forced to shut down.

Now, 12 years down the road, Isaac has decided to give himself a 2nd chance and opened his very own hawker stall again, this time in Singapore. He has put a unique spin on his dishes, by combining traditional grilled meats and Hainanese glazed sauces with a Japanese-style omelette over pearl rice.

Choose from 7 different kinds of Hainanese Omelette Chop Rice such as the Crispy Chicken Cutlet Omelette Rice (S$8.20), Sausage Luncheon Ham Omelette Rice (S$5.90), and Grilled Pork Chop Omelette Rice (S$7.90).
