Singaporeans truly are a lucky lot when it comes to Korean food. There are many different Korean concepts to choose from to satisfy almost every type of craving from KBBQ to samgyetang. Well, a new one has just arrived in the form of Sot (솥) Korean Restaurant.

Along with the usual favourites like Korean Pancake (from S$15), Ramyeon (from S$13) and Hot Pot Bibimbap (S$15), Sot also has what they call “Pot Lid BBQ”, where meat of your choice is grilled tableside in huge iron pot lids set atop large drums.

There are 3 different platters available: Pork BBQ Platter (S$90), Beef BBQ Platter (S$120) and Large Intestine (S$120). Each platter includes Steamed Egg, or gyeran-jjim.

The contents of the platter will then be cooked tableside by a staff member using the lid of a type of traditional Korean cast-iron pot known as a gamasot (가마솥). It can get quite smoky as there are no vents directly over the cooking area, so be prepared to leave smelling like delicious KBBQ.

Sot’s signature dishes, such as their Dak-Dori-tang (from S$60) and Dak-Galbi (from S$60) are also prepared tableside in the lids. The dishes are stir-fried first and then stewed, creating a hearty, wholesome dish of tender chicken and delicious root vegetables with an addictive spicy sauce.

It would be remiss to not mention refreshments with all that rich food on the menu. Sot’s Snow Beer (S$14) is the perfect accompaniment. It’s topped with beer-flavoured bingsu-style shaved ice to amp up the chill factor.

Sot’s portions are all meant for sharing, so grab your friends and family before heading down!
