The popular Singaporean-founded Indian cuisine brand had 4 outlets in Jurong Point (main store), Northpoint, Coastal Playgrove at East Coast Park and Chinatown Point. Currently, only the Chinatown Point outlet remains open, while the rest have ceased operations and are labelled as “Permanently Closed” on their Google Maps profiles.

An official notice of the closure was posted on the company’s Facebook page on 18 Feb, thanking all its customers for their support over the years. It announced the ceasing of operations “with a heavy heart”, and said that serving the diners had been a “true privilege”. As of 21 Feb, the post has been taken down from Facebook by the brand.

While Prata Wala did not provide any further explanation behind why they closed their outlets, it is said that they have plans in store. In fact, the Chinatown Point outlet has communicated with several news platforms on the matter. It turns out that the final remaining branch is set to rebrand with a new name, Makan Prata.

According to the Chinatown Point franchise, the new name might allow the brand to better connect with their local fans while serving the same good-quality food. Other than that, the team behind the name remains unchanged and will be working to provide more variety to the existing menu. The eatery has also set up an in-store poster to alert customers of the changes and assure them of the continuation of daily operations.

This new rebrand is something loyal customers can look forward to! Despite Prata Wala having closed all but one of its outlets, its journey is far from done.
