If you’re a chicken rice aficionado, there’s a chance you’re already very familiar with Sin Kee Chicken Rice, located at Ubi Avenue 1. As of 5 Mar 2025, Sin Kee will be located at a new stall in Sims Vista Market & Food Centre.

The name is legendary in the chicken rice scene, and has its roots in the original Sin Kee which was established by Mr Leong Fook Wing at Margaret Drive in 1971. There are several outlets sharing the name, 2 of which are run by Mr Le
ong’s sons, Benson and Niven. Benson continued the business at Mei Ling Market before moving to Holland Drive, and is now known as Margaret Drive Chicken Rice.

Niven, on the other hand, authorised the use of the “Sin Kee” name, and sold his father’s recipe in an attempt to preserve it. He started a venture named Uncle Chicken Rice, which is now defunct. He then reverted to the Sin Kee Chicken Rice name for his stall at Ubi DMQ Eating House.

Niven closely follows his father’s special recipe for preparing the chicken. After poaching, it’s given a cold water bath and left to drip dry. The end result is chicken that is flavourful with a luscious layer of gelatinised fat between the meat and skin.
Upon news of the move, dozens of fans of Sin Kee Chicken Rice took to social media to congratulate Niven on the new location, with many stating that they would head to his stall’s new location to support him.

The new stall will open Tuesdays to Sundays, 11am to 3pm. Those interested to have a taste of this famous chicken rice are encouraged to arrive early, as Sin Kee Chicken Rice is known to sell out before closing.
