I like tech, I can hardly cook, and (like everyone else) I would love more free time; the Thermomix TM7 was made for me. And almost everyone else, too.

Thermomix TM7 - on counter

German company Vorwerk released its first advanced model in 1961 and still manufactures exclusively in Germany and France. ‘Advanced’ is the key word here — I visited the Thermomix Experience Store at The Cathay and literally couldn’t believe what the new Thermomix TM7 can do.

Imagine making fresh lemonade, creamy mushroom soup, homemade focaccia and silky fruit sorbet, all through a touchscreen, in one device and without getting your hands dirty. I didn’t just imagine all that — I saw it happen live. The Thermomix TM7 isn’t just a smart appliance but an almost magical device for everyone from novices to chefs.

What can the Thermomix TM7 do?

At the heart of the Thermomix TM7 is guided step-by-step cooking through a 10-inch touchscreen interface that walks you through each recipe. It doesn’t just suggest what to do — it handles the heat, the timing and the texture, so you can focus on flavour and creativity.

When we tried the TM7 during an in-store demonstration, the results were immediate and impressive:

  • Lemonade was blitzed from whole lemons in seconds, no peeling or straining required.
  • Focaccia dough came together effortlessly, kneaded to perfection with zero mess.
  • Creamy mushroom soup sautéed, simmered and puréed itself in one self-cleaning (!) bowl.
  • Hand-ripped cabbage whirled itself into steaming, fragrant existence, ready to be served
  • Fruit ice cream emerged as a smooth, chilled sorbet straight from frozen berries and cream, ready in under 2 minutes.

Around the showroom, I saw TM7s effortlessly creating international fare ranging from our own Singapore Chilli Crab to miso soup to baguettes. Each showcased the appliance’s ability to handle complexity while delivering hands-free simplicity.

Designed for Every Kitchen

For a kitchen newbie like me, the 10-inch touchscreen of the Thermomix TM7 is a lifesaver. Thermomix has invested a lot of time and effort designing a virtually foolproof step-by-step guide to every one of its over 100,000 integrated recipes.

Thermomix TM7 - weighs ingredients

Perhaps it’s my newness to the kitchen but seeing the TM7 weigh ingredients as they were added and display it on the screen was amazing — one less kitchen device required.

While the novelty wasn’t lost on me, experienced cooks can also use the TM7 to hone their dishes. An Open Cooking Mode offers flexibility for sautéing or stewing with the lid off while an insulated cool-touch bowl keeps surfaces safe.

From weekday dinners to weekend experiments, everything runs smoother when cleanup, timing and consistency are automated for you.

Why the Thermomix TM7 is different

I remember thinking to myself before I visited the Thermomix showroom, “It’s like a food processor, right?” Bless my naïve little head.

A food processor has perhaps 2% of the capabilities of a Thermomix TM7. Here are the everyday features that stood out to me:

  • Touchscreen interface – Intuitive navigation, customisable recipe profiles and a modern cooking interface.
  •  Versatile functions – Chopping, kneading, fermenting, cooking and blending with one device.
  • Guided Recipes via Cookidoo – Choose from a bank of over 100,000 evolving recipes updated regularly.

As you follow a recipe, it even lets you tick off ingredients you’ve already added so you don’t accidentally add twice or forget altogether. Whether you’re prepping a simple stew or recreating something complex from scratch, the Thermomix TM7 matches your pace and ambition.

The technology

The Thermomix TM7’s precision engineering and advanced components make it the smartest, most useful and most versatile kitchen appliance I have ever come across. These are some of the things that stood out to me when I watched the demo:

  •  Silent, maintenance-free motor – Able to vary speed from 40 rpm to 10,700 rpm, it uses the same blades gently enough to stir risotto and strongly enough to turn ice into powder in 2 seconds.
  • Insulated stainless-steel – No matter how hot the interior is, the Thermomix TM7 stays cool on the outside. Perfect for homes with inquisitive children.
  • The hidden locking mechanism automatically secures the lid and base when cooking above speed 2, increasing safety and ease.

Plus, Open Cooking Mode and presets make it easier to sauté, brown, or slow cook, with or without lid. Meanwhile, Cookidoo, Vorwerk’s recipe ecosystem, powers a constantly expanding library of over 100,000 global recipes with success-guaranteed instructions.

Is the Thermomix TM7 for you?

After watching the Thermomix TM7 in action, I want one. Badly.

It’s not just because I can’t cook myself, but because I will be moving homes soon and this amazing device can do the work of several kitchen appliances despite its tiny footprint. Apparently, I won’t even need a range hood as everything is smokeless — you can even use the Thermomix TM7 in your bedroom.

If you are confident in the kitchen, the debut of Open Cooking Mode in the Thermomix TM7 lets you add your flair while using an intelligent multifunctional appliance. For the uninitiated like me, the main USP of the TM7 is the guided cooking process.

So, who is the Thermomix TM7 for? I would say that anyone who falls in these 5 categories (at least) would love to have one:

  • Time-starved professionals and busy parents
  • Flat dwellers with a small kitchen
  • New cooks who want to learn as they go, step-by-step
  • Foodies eager to experiment with smart features
  • Anyone who dislikes the tedium of planning meals

I fall into several of those categories.
