Quick Summary

Kola Food Centre’s unnamed Western stall stands out for its unusually diverse menu, featuring both classic hawker Western fare and American-style dishes like waffles with savoury mains. The Chicken Waffle impresses with a freshly made, crispy-yet-fluffy waffle, though the accompanying fried chicken is tough to cut and slightly dry. The Chicken Chop offers better balance, with tender, mildly juicy meat and a light gravy, though sides are modest in portion. Overall, this stall at Kola Food Centre is a solid, affordable option for hearty Western meals, particularly for diners seeking variety and

I was scrolling through social media one evening when I came across a video advertising a Western Stall at Kola Food Centre. What really caught my eye was that this stall offered waffles as one of their main dishes. Aside from that, no matter where I looked, I simply could not find the name of this stall.

Intrigued, I decided to head down to Kola Food Centre to hunt it down.

The video online showed that the stall’s menu was large, and when I went down there, I could confirm it was huge. Apart from your regular Fish & Chips (S$6) and Chicken Cutlet (S$6), this stall also sells more American-ised options such as the American Slam (S$11) and the Waffle, Sausage, & Scramble (S$5.50), or simply the Waffle (S$3).

Yet, I still could not decipher the name of this stall.

What to order at Kola Food Centre’s Western Stall

I had to kick things off by ordering the Chicken Waffle (S$5.50), mainly because I had never seen this dish sold at a food centre before.

Golden and generously sized, the waffle was crispy and had a soft, fluffy centre. What stood out to me was the batter — it was deeply rich, and the edges did not feel dry at all. The waffles are also made upon order, which makes them piping hot — the best way to enjoy waffles, in my opinion.

The chicken took practically half the plate, almost covering the waffle whole. I had high hopes for it, as it looked delightfully crispy on the outside.

However, cutting into it was a problem — I don’t think I’m that weak, but I had difficulty slicing through, and flakes of chicken bits were flying all over the place. After a messy ordeal, I was finally able to cut it into bite-sized pieces.

The inside of the chicken looked rather dry, and it was nothing mind-blowing. A plus point was that it did not taste oily in the slightest.

Kola Food Centre Western Stall - Chicken Chop

After trying many variations from different stalls across Singapore, I was curious to find out what Kola Food Centre’s Western Stall’s Chicken Chop (S$5.50) had to offer.

The chicken chop came with the standard sides of fries, baked beans and a bun. For S$5.50, it was understandable that the portion of sides was relatively smaller compared to other stalls at steeper price points.

The chicken chop was much easier to slice into bite-sized pieces, and I would have appreciated it if there had been slightly more gravy on my chicken.

The chicken was chewy and tender. I felt that it was slightly juicy on the inside, and that the chicken skin had that umami taste that I was craving for. The gravy was not thick; rather, quite light on my taste buds.

As someone who prefers crispy and firm fries, I didn’t particularly enjoy the fries. However, if you’re a fan of softer fries, this would be perfect for you.

Who is Kola Food Centre’s Western Stall for?

It is for diners who are in the area and want a hearty portion of good Western food at affordable price points. It is also for diners who want to have Western sides to accompany their main dishes, as they do sell a good deal at 3 sides for S$9.
