I’m pretty certain most of us have come across or patronised King of Fried Rice at least once or twice (unless you, ahem, don’t go out). The 8-year-old establishment has flourished — expanding from a stand-alone stall to more than 30 branches across Singapore.

The founder, Lester Li, an ex-Jumbo Seafood chef, has just launched a brand-new Thai-inspired concept, King of Krapow, which laid roots at Hawkers’ Street food court at Bukit Panjang Plaza on 2 Jun 2026.

On his trips to Bangkok, Lester discovered pad kra pow (basil minced chicken with rice), a spicy meat dish with a robust basil aroma that’s a popular everyday comfort food among Thais. Personally, though I love this dish in all its variations — chicken, beef or pork — but whenever I have it, I find myself constantly pairing the rice with either the egg or the stir-fried minced meat. Otherwise… it’s a little, errr… plain.

So, with that said, what do you think my opinion of Lester’s idea of pairing kra pow with his signature fried rice is? I’d say it’s pure genius, of course! However, will the overall flavours end up being all over the place, given that the plain rice is meant to balance out the richness of the other elements? I guess the best way to find out is to swing by to give it a try yourself.

At King of Krapow, there are a total of 8 options, with 3 different price points: without egg, single-yolk, and double-yolk.  A must-try is the Basil Minced Chicken with Double Yolk (S$8.30). A combination of tender minced chicken, fragrant basil, and spicy red chilli are tossed in a scorching wok, imparting an unmistakably distinct wok-kissed flavour. It’s complemented by their signature fried rice and a glorious sunny-side-up containing 2 golden yolks, wonderfully crisped on the edges.

Another dish that’s more unique and a little bit pricier is the Prawn with Minced Pork (S$8.30/S$9.30/S$10.30), which brings together the sweetness of fresh prawns with piquant minced pork. There’s other variations like Pork Belly (S$7.30/S$8.30/S$9.30), Minced Pork (S$6.30/S$7.30/S$8.30), and more.

In the near future, customers can keep a lookout for its official mascot, Pow Pow, that will be unveiled in upcoming campaigns and in the form of cute merchandise.
