Are you starved for sporting entertainment after the thrill of the World Cup? Do you want that entertainment to be free? I strongly recommend the International Va’a Federation (IVF) World Sprint Championships 2026 currently underway from 17 to 31 Aug 2026.

This marks the first time the IVF World Sprints are being held in Asia. Over 3,000 elite and club athletes from more than 30 countries are competing, making it the largest outrigger canoe racing event in history.
Catch the action along the Marina Bay waterfront near the Merlion, Esplanade, and Fullerton area at no cost. It’s a thrilling date idea or even a fun family day out.
Competition schedule

The action of the IVF World Sprints 2026 is spread over 2 weeks:
- 17 to 19 Aug: Course familiarisation, Para-Vaʻa classification, official canoe blessing and opening ceremony.
- 20 & 21 Aug: Elite World Championships and Elite V1 races, as well as cultural events.
- 22 to 29 Aug: Club World Championships and age-division racing spanning V1, V6 and V12 events.
- 30 & 31 Aug: Buffer/saver days, if required.
Catch the action
The Marina Bay waterfront offers several vantage points to catch the action of the IVF World Sprint Championships. Choose spots that offer different perspectives of the sprint lanes, and move between locations for the best experience and best camera shots.
The Promontory @ Marina Bay

This is the prime spot for viewing the finish line and the central race action. The open, elevated deck provides an unobstructed view across the bay, allowing you to follow the canoes as they sprint toward the finish.
- Best for: Atmosphere, up-close views of the finishing sprints and race intensity.
- Atmosphere: High-energy, with the thickest cheering crowds and proximity to the main event area.
Merlion Park

Located on the opposite side of the bay, this iconic landmark boasts a scenic, panoramic view of the entire competition area. While it is further from the race lanes, your photos will feature the race in the foreground and the iconic Singapore cityscape behind.
- Best for: Photography and taking in the city landscape.
- Atmosphere: Busy and tourist-friendly, it’s perfect if you’re a casual fan and want to enjoy the nearby cafes.
Esplanade Waterfront

The walkway stretching along the Esplanade offers a long, linear view of the race course. Walk along this stretch to move with the athletes as they paddle past.
- Best for: Following the progress of the races.
- Atmosphere: Perfect for a relaxed, breezy stroll with plenty of shade and seating options.
See you by the water!
