Eat your Way to a Dream Holiday at Jurong Point.
When I’m not eating or sleeping, I’d like to indulge in my other all-time favourite hobby, and that is to jet off to another country and behave like a total tourist because, why not. So when there is such a thing where I can eat and stand a chance to win a pair of air tickets, I’m in.
Jurong Point Shopping Mall is now holding a gifting galore where all you need to do is to eat AND win a pair of air tickets to various dream locations such as Dubai, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea or a Club Med Cherating package for two. They are also throwing in two Samsonite luggage bags with a $200 Jurong Point gift vouchers. Oh damn son.
You think that’s fine enough? I’ll have you know those are the prizes for the precinct lucky draw only. The most coveted grand prize is a pair of air tickets to… Los Angeles. I’m talking about Hollywood and poodles everywhere. Add two Samsonite luggage bags to that and a $1000 Jurong Point gift vouchers as well.
At this point of time you’re probably filled with questions on how to partake in this wonderful activity. I say hold your horses lovers, I’m just about to explain myself.
From 31st October to 31st December, all you have to do is to go down to Jurong Point and collect your passport for Best of Asian Food Under One Roof at any participating restaurants.
Within that, there are 5 precincts dedicated to different countries, namely Mongkok for Hong Kong, Shokutsu Ten for Japan, Korean Street for well, Korea obviously, Malaysia Boleh for Club Med at Cherating and Halal Delights for Dubai.
Each different precinct is unique to their dedicated cuisines where you get a myriad of restaurants to choose from. Within each precinct, spend a minimum amount in a single same day receipt at one of their participating restaurants and receive a stamp on the passport for each respective precinct. Once that particular precinct is completed, you have successfully qualified for the lucky draw.
Let’s check out some of the awesome Asian foods that you can feast on at Jurong Point!
In the Mongkok precinct (or better known as Hongkong precinct), simply spend $50 in a single receipt at either Central Hong Kong Cafe, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao or Legendary Hong Kong to get a stamp. Collect 6 stamps and you qualify to enter the contest to win a pair of air tickets to Hong Kong.
Legendary Hong Kong resembles a lot like the authentic Hong Kong char chan teng or roasted meat shop where you can feast on Hong Kong’s famed barbequed meat. From the decor to the food, it really transported me to Hong Kong for a split second. Also, it doesn’t help that I am a big fan of that country, so yes, cheap thrills.
Roasted duck ($30 for half a duck, $58 for whole). The meat is not too tough and is tasty. At Legendary Hong Kong, you also get to receive free treats of custard bun with butter, hot milk tea and hot honey pomelo whenever you spend a minimum of $50.
In the Shokutsu Ten precinct, simply spend $50 in a single receipt to get your stamp on the Jurong Point passport to qualify for the precinct lucky draw, winning you a pair of air tickets to Japan. Participating restaurants in this precinct are Ichiban Boshi, Kabe No Ana Japanese Pasta, Kuishin Bo Authentic Japanese Buffet, Kuriya Japanese Market, Men-ichi Japanese Ramen, Shabu Tontei and Wadori. With such a wide selection to choose from, 6 stamps shouldn’t pose any problem.
A mini collection of Korean delights like Korean BBQ and hotpots, at the Korean Street precinct spend $50 on a single receipt at Chef’s Noodle, Korbi Grill, Seoul Garden or Seoul Garden hotpot to get a stamp.
Likewise, collect all 6 to enter the lucky draw to win a pair of air tickets to Korea. Free treats at Chef’s Noodle includes SSAM – bulgogi/ spicy pork/ pork belly worth $6.90+ and deep fried wing sticks with spicy coating worth $6.90+ at Seoul Garden.
Grilled Beef Rib Eye Steak (180gm $21.90, 250gm $25.90). At Korbi Grill, you get to have calamari worth $6.90+ as well for free. If you’re a fan of Korean food, then Korbi Grill is the place to redeem your stamp. You can choose the kimchi jjigae soup base that is filled with seafood delights at Seoul Garden Hotpot for $16.90 or chef’s guksoo at Chef’s Noodles and so on.
Chef’s Guksoo ($13.90). This can be found in Chef’s Noodles. The stew is packed with all the quintessential ingredients like tofu, rice vermicelli and vegetables. The broth is not too spicy but if you do fancy a spicy one, let the service staff know and that can be arranged.
Malaysia Boleh! carries all your favourite hawker fare in comfort, far away from the dust and hot weather of the roadside. The participating stalls are, oh no we are not being exclusive here, all the stalls are included. We are talking about Char Kway Teow, Klang Bak Kut Teh, Penang Road’s Famous Chendol, Popiah and so on. Yum.
For Malaysia Boleh, the rules are slightly different. Spend a total of just $20 (yes you read that correctly) within the traditional coffeeshop-like dining area to receive a stamp on the passport. Although the minimum spending for a stamp is lower, a total of 8 stamps are needed for this precinct.
Char Kway Teow (small $4, big $6), Penang Jalan Cheong Fatt Tze Prawn Mee (small $3.50, big $5), Petaling Street Famous Claypot Chicken Rice (small $5, big $8), Klang Bak Kut Teh (small $5, big $8). Mmhm, I like how affordable, yummy and authentic tasting these dishes are without having me to travel all the way to their respective areas in Malaysia for it. I also get to sit in air conditioned comfort and also win a trip for 2 to Club Med Cherating. What more do I want really.
As for the Halal Delights precinct, spend $50 to get your stamp and enter in the precinct’s lucky draw to win a pair of tickets to Dubai. Participating restaurants are Ayam Penyet Ria, Fish & Co, Prata Wala and Swensen’s. Get a total of 6 stamps and you’re good to go.
I know, calm down. You’re still wondering about the Los Angeles air ticket draw. I’m still on it. Simply collect all the stamps for all the precincts and voila, you’re now in the run towards America’s Next Top Model, oh no wait, a pair of grand prize air tickets to Los Angeles. You can also collect two free Samsonite luggage bags for the trip and purchase necessities from Jurong Point with the $1000 cash vouchers that comes with the prize. Oh yes.
Wonder what’s going on with the non-participating stalls? Not to worry, you’re still gaining my fellow gourmands. Spend $120 at any restaurants in two combined receipt on the same day and you can redeem a free passport cover that comes in blue or pink.
One such place to spend at is at Woo’s Rice Box, an authentic Taiwanese eatery of over 70 years and has more than 200 stores in Taiwan, you get to feast on ingredients that are imported from Taiwan and also very delicious fried chicken.
Salt and Pepper Popcorn Chicken ($4.20), Double Boiled Soup ($4.50) and Railway Pork Chop Rice Box ($9.90). The usual salt and pepper popcorn chicken uses chicken breast but Woo’s Chicken Box uses chicken thigh, making it more tender and juicy. While I tend to stray away from having too much fried food, I couldn’t stop popping these little devils because yummy. The fried chicken was stellar as well, making me caught up in a dilemma really.
Braised Minced Pork Rice Box ($6.80), Spicy Drumstick Rice Box ($8.90). They’re also running a promotion with China Airlines and Taiwan Tourism Board.
Receive a free stamp when you purchase two rice boxes in the same receipt and upon collecting 10 stamps for the completion of Woo’s Rice Box’s stamp card, you get to win air tickets to Taiwan as well – this is exclusively for Woo Rice Box and nothing to do with the Jurong Point Best of Asian Food lucky draw.
Oh what’s stopping you now. Come on down and eat your way to a dream holiday at Jurong Point Shopping Mall!
