Fried chicken is one of those almost universally loved dishes. Whether it’s Taiwanese or Korean fried chicken, I’m sure most of us have our favourites. A new hawker stall located at 560 MacPherson Road, specialising in fried chicken, has got everyone clucking – I mean, talking. It’s Big Fried Chicken, or BFC as people have been calling it.

A set of 2 Wings 1 Rice costs S$4.50, and if you prefer your fried chicken with pasta, 2 Wings 1 Spaghetti is S$6. Individual parts start from S$1.80 for a Chicken Wing – there’s also Chicken Skin (S$2) and other parts like the Drumstick (S$3) and Chicken Back (S$2.60). There is also Chicken Gizzard (S$2), but it’s not always available as sometimes the stall owners are too busy to prepare them.

Some have compared the taste to Carona Fried Chicken Wings (the original owner now runs Victor’s Fried Chicken Wing Rice & Hainanese Chicken Rice). The skin is crispy, with juicy and tender meat. The rice has been described as being “very fragrant”, and the accompanying chilli sauce packs a good heat. Customers have also described the service as being good, with the stall owners letting customers choose their chicken pieces and paying the difference.

Despite the positive reviews, there are of course negative ones, too. Some commenters remarked that although the chicken is well-cooked and very crispy, the skin can end up being too salty, and the meat is bland.
A Google review said that “The person who said the rice is better than most chicken rice stalls probably haven’t had any decent chicken rice before.” Others also documented rude interactions from the stall owners, such as being told off when they wanted to choose a different chicken piece.
For those who have tried it, what do you guys think?
