Singaporeans are increasingly getting caught up with health fads, with the ketogenic diet being the latest craze to hit town. One big drawback to this keto diet is the inability to eat carb-rich foods, so indulging in a juicy, meaty burger might be out of the question.

The Butcher’s Kitchen Keto Burger 1

Well, not anymore! The Butcher’s Kitchen in Suntec City has teamed up with Seriously Keto to produce what they claim to be Singapore’s first Keto Burgers. There are four options available, so we tried some to see how it matches up to conventional burgers.

You can choose from the Keto Beef Burger (S$18.80++), Keto Roast Pork Burger (S$17.80++), Keto Pork Burger (S$16.80++) and Keto Chicken Burger (S$13.80++).

The Butcher’s Kitchen Keto Burger 2

The KetoBun is supposedly zero-sugar, gluten-free, diabetic friendly, and of course, super low in carbohydrates. Made of almond flour, onion powder and apple cider vinegar, I loved how it was as fluffy and airy as a marshmallow.

I had high expectations for the meats from The Butcher’s Kitchen, and they did not disappoint. The meats are all grass and grain-fed, and The Butcher’s Kitchen works directly with farms from Australia and Japan to ensure that all meat used is antibiotic and growth hormone-free.

The Butcher’s Kitchen Keto Burger 4

The meat is prepared in-house and ground made-to-order. In fact, I could see them preparing the meat right in front of me!

The chicken patty for the Keto Chicken Burger was exceptionally memorable, with liberal use of spices mixed in with the tender and juicy meat.

On the other hand, the beef patty for the Keto Beef Burger was slightly underwhelming. The natural beef flavour shone through with more subtle seasoning, but the meat tasted a little dry. This could be due to the fact that there was no binding agent used for the meat (since this is, after all, a keto-friendly burger).

The Butcher’s Kitchen Keto Burger 3

I particularly liked the cheese used for the burgers. Slightly oozy, the cheese was mellow but had a strong aftertaste, which paired really well with the meats used. All burger sets come with a side and you can pick from four healthy vegetables — zucchinis, asparagus, lettuce or cauliflower, all of which are keto-friendly.

The burger sets are slightly on the smaller side, which may not satiate your hunger if you’re famished.  But if you’re not a big eater, it may be the perfect portion. Just keep that in mind when you come down and give these burgers a shot!
