Serangoon Gardens is the gift that just keeps giving isn’t it? It’s home to a host of Korean BBQ joints, the overwhelmingly popular Nic & Tom Eatery, and the ever-adored Apollo Coffee Bar. Now, Chū and Co. joins the host of great fare at the Serangoon Gardens region, albeit located further up within private housing along Lichfield Road.

Exterior shot of Chu and Co

There aren’t any blaring signs signalling the cafe’s existence, just an industrial chic exterior littered with luscious plants and lovely garden furniture. No two table set ups are the same at Chū and Co., and that’s exactly what I love about the place. It’s doesn’t put up airs, and really plays into the fact that each seat brings a different view and experience to the diner.

Store front of Chu and Co

Apart from bakes, Chū and Co. also serves up a limited brunch menu that includes interesting dishes like the Falafel Wholesome Plate (S$12), Appenzeller Cheese Toast (S$7), and a Caprese Sandwich (S$12). However, as they’re freshly starting out, understandably, only a select number of items are available for order currently.

Chu's Breakfast consisting of sourdough, bacon, and arugula

The Chu’s Breakfast (S$15) is their iteration of the perennial big breakfast, which is almost the building block of any cafe here in Singapore. One for the hungry diner, the Chu’s Breakfast presents three slices of sourdough, egg mayo, baked beans, strips of good ol’ bacon, two sunny side ups, as well as an arugula salad to pair. Discounting the beans, it’s almost the perfect breakfast I could dream up. My only gripe? I was expecting the portion to be just a tad larger for the price.

Close up of egg mayo toast

A rather simple classic, the Egg Mayo Toast (S$7) is exactly what you think it will be—a generous heap of chunky egg mayo slapped atop a thick toast bun and topped off with one of my favourite greens of all, arugula. There’s nothing quite to fault here, except that it’s not particularly exciting if you’re looking for something that’ll knock your socks off.

A close up of quiche

We had a Quiche Of The Day (S$9) to share, which is a perfect safe medley of onions and cheese atop a soft crust. It is, after all, hard to go wrong with a quiche, and if you do, there’s some serious reflecting to be done.

Iced white on the left, iced oat latte on the right

No brunch is complete without some tea or coffee to go with, and today’s pick was an Iced White (S$6) and of course, my trusty Iced Oat Latte (S$7).

Oh and I forgot to mention, Chū and Co. is also pet-friendly so swing by for a lazy afternoon brunch, and bask in the presence of good company and furry pals while you’re at it. At night, the space transforms into a gelato bar called Chulato, where you’ll find interesting flavours like Sake Milk and Smoked Whisky.
