It’s not every day that you see a hawker stall quite as haphazard with its portioning. Introducing Humful Char Kway Teow (S$8), a single plate of CKT topped with over 30 cockles, courtesy of Liang Ji The Legendary King.

We’ve previously covered the affable stall owner Dominic Neo’s closure at Waterloo Street and subsequent re-opening at his current Telok Blangah location in 2022. There was even a promotion for 9 Aug babies on National Day this year.

The rather unreserved 49-year-old isn’t afraid to take to social media to defend the quantity (and quality) of his Humful Char Kway Teow. In one TikTok video, he shows a customer counting up to an astonishing 41 cockles on his plate of char kway teow.

The caption reads ‘Hoe many cockles? frankly i dun count when putting on it. so let’s see what our customers review.’ (sic)

If you’re not a fan of the Humful Char Kway Teow, the rest of the menu sports a similar air of rambunctiousness. The Ultimate Char Kway Teow (S$15) comes with both crab meat and oysters. The Wasabi Floss Carrot Cake (S$6/S$8) is a particularly adventurous option alongside the Cheesy Floss Carrot Cake (S$6/S$8).

For some reason, simply rattling off these combinations has triggered an inexplicable desire to try them for myself.

Not to worry, as Mr Neo still whips up traditional dishes like White (S$3.50/S$5.50) or Black Carrot Cake (S$3.50/S$5.50), and even has Char Kway Teow done in different styles – Penang, Teochew and Mala – each costing S$5 or S$7.
