When I received a preview model of the ECOVACS DEEBOT X11 OmniCyclone robot vacuum, I was doubtful if anything would really stand out. I’ve tested several models before and none have ever been particularly impressive. There is no way I would replace my helper with a machine. But the DEEBOT X11 isn’t meant to replace a human being, just make life a lot simpler for them.
It seems that for the first time, I may actually be in the market for a robot vacuum myself.
My experience with the DEEBOT X11 OmniCyclone

First things first: The ECOVACS DEEBOT X11 OmniCyclone is a sleek machine. Both the roving robot and the static OmniCyclone base station have panels that resemble brushed metal, giving them a quiet elegance. The bin that makes up the central part of the station is constructed of tinted plastic, striking a balance between maintaining that sleek look and letting you see when it needs to be emptied.
OmniCyclone Station

Looks aside, I like that the Deebot X11 has adopted a bagless waste management system. The 1.6L dustbin apparently loses less than 1% of its maximum suction power after successive dust collection cycles compared to traditional bag systems. When I pair that with the savings from not having to buy proprietary dust bags, the OmniCyclone seems like a good investment from Day 1.

I also like how accessible and easy to manage the water tank assembly is. There is no fiddling — the handles of the 2 tanks (clean and dirty water) form the top of the station (above, left) and lift readily and steadily away, then slip seamlessly back into place.
There are also 2 small tanks for detergent — one for normal cleaning and one for heavy-duty needs. The on-board sensor of the robot vacuum determines which is needed as it cleans using AI Stain Detection 2.0, then applies it for the best results.
Perhaps the best feature of the DEEBOT X11 base station is PowerBoost. When the robot vacuum returns to the station, it receives a 6% charge in just 3 minutes. At this rate, the robot can clean up to 1,000sqm. of floor space even at maximum settings. No matter how big your house is, or how dirty the floor, the X11 will handle the clean-up without your intervention. I haven’t seen this capability on any other robot vacuum.

DEEBOT X11
The robot vacuum of the DEEBOT X11 is a beast. It produces up to 19,500Pa of suction power alongside 18L/sec airflow, making both vacuuming and mopping a breeze with the X11’s BLAST technology.

It’s a physical beast, too, conquering obstacles as high as 40mm on its cleaning journey using TruePass. The photo above shows the wheels at their maximum extension away from the body to achieve this. Carpets, rugs, doorway thresholds and small step-ups pose no barrier to this cleaning juggernaut when it’s on duty. And because each wheel moves independently of the other, it will carry on cleaning regardless of the layout of the room and small objects in its way.

After the gymnastics are done, the DEEBOT X11 also leans into some stretching with TruEdge3.0. The roller unit extends outwards up to 15mm, meaning it won’t just clean what’s immediately under it, but even extend that coverage under overhangs and baseboards. It’s a problem area I have seen first-hand with many other robot vacuums, and this is a simple but effective solution.

The roller itself is dubbed the OZMO ROLLER 2.0, an update that grants it 3,800Pa of pressure to dig up dirt and grime at 200rpm, even from high-pile surfaces. The mop roller is cleaned as it cleans, depositing dirty water in an onboard tank. This ensures that any spilled liquid it’s cleaning up isn’t smeared about during the cleaning cycle, but effectively removed from the floor and roller as soon as it is mopped up. In my tests, most spills were taken care off in one pass, but the robot made a second pass for a thorough job.
You may think that this will lead to lingering odours in the mop fabric but ECOVACS is one step ahead there. The OmniCyclone station uses 75°C water and hot air to rid the roller mop head of any residual dirt, liquid and odours. My preview of the DEEBOT X11 was only a week long but as of now, the roller mop is completely stain- and odour-free.
Final thoughts
I have tested a few robot vacuums and have always resisted the temptation to buy one… but the ECOVACS DEEBOT X11 OmniCyclone just may have made me change my mind. This model has incorporated some features and capabilities that go beyond gimmicky and made me nod, “Wow, that’s actually pretty good.”
Chief among these is TruEdge3.0 and TruePass, while the wallet-friendly bagless station is also a huge plus. The biggest drawback is, of course, the S$1,699 price tag. Maybe you can convince your significant other with this sweetener: buy a DEEBOT X11 from 9-12 Oct and you can get a free WINBOT mini window cleaner worth S$699. (I’m working that into my own spiel to her now)
