Ethan My Prawn Noodle closes, couple opening takeaway bakery soon

Whether or not you’ve eaten at Ethan My Prawn Noodles, you might have heard of the couple behind this hawker stall through the grapevine. Ethan and Gina both left their jobs to focus on their joint business ventures, the prawn mee stall at Amoy Street Food Centre and their home-based baking business, Baking with Gina.

Sadly, just 7 months after they first opened in Mar, the prawn mee stall has had to close.

According to a Facebook post made on 22 Oct, the decision to close on 27 Oct was due to an unreliability of the supply of fresh-caught prawns, as well as rising operational costs. These factors made it difficult for them to price their prawn noodles affordably.

Hai Kee Noodle: $3.50 old-school noodles & handmade dumplings by 3rd-gen hawker

Ethan My Prawn Noodles was started to further Ethan’s grandfather’s prawn noodle legacy from the 60s. Their menu offered 3 types of noodles — yellow noodles, thick vermicelli, and kway teow — in the Signature Dry Prawn Noodles (S$9.50) and regular Dry Prawn Noodles (S$6.50), as well as soup variations.

With a broth made from simmering chicken bones with ikan bilis and then fried ‘Ang Kar‘ prawns, their rendition had a subtle sweet aftertaste.

The closure of Ethan My Prawn Noodles does not mean the end for the couple’s culinary journey. In the same Facebook post, they also mentioned that Baking with Gina will be shifting out of their home and into a takeaway bakery in Hougang.

Fans can expect the new location at The Promenade @ Pelikat to have a familiar selection of wholemeal sourdough bread, bagels and waffles. As they will also be selling pineapple tarts and cookies during festive seasons, they are hoping to open by Dec 2023.

When asked if we can expect a return of Ethan My Prawn Noodles, the couple says they’re taking a break and might explore non-hawker options in the future instead.
