First Street Teochew Fish Soup has certainly made a name for themselves over the past few years following their deal with Breadtalk Group. What if I told you that the brand recently changed directions and started their first Hokkien mee business? The new stall is called First Street Fried Prawn Noodles, and it’s situated in Upper Serangoon.
On 4 Feb, the chain, which currently consists of 3 outlets, opened First Street Fried Prawn Noodles named after the original. This new venture is their first-ever Hokkien mee stall, deviating from their usual path of serving Teochew fish soup.
The menu is simple. It consists of 2 dishes, Fried Prawn Noodles (S$6/S$8/S$10), and Big Prawn Fried Prawn Noodles (S$12). What’s special about the latter is that they contain large, juicy tiger prawns from Thailand that are deshelled and have tails and heads left on for presentation.
First Street promises that like with their fish soup, they shall uphold the excellent quality of their cooking in the preparation of the fried prawn noodles. The prawn broth is slow-cooked for 4 to 6 hours, and the noodles are fried in batches to ensure freshness, and topped with crispy pork lard.
For context, First Street started out as a humble Teochew fish soup stall in Kovan in 1988. Their soup recipe was so well-loved by customers that it was said to be the reason they were picked up by Breadtalk Group. After Breadtalk invested in First Street, they went on to open an outlet at Food Republic in the bakery company’s headquarters building in Tai Seng.
Breadtalk Group is also the owner of multiple famous F&B chains such as Toastbox and Din Tai Fung.
