No need to hold your breath anymore, because the revamped Funan Mall has opened on 28 June 2019!

With so many new concept stores and exciting brands, there’s just so much to do, eat and see. Funan Mall may have been known as a hangout spot for tech geeks looking for IT gadgets, but now they offer so much more including a plethora of restaurants.

Unique architecture and sleek, modern design aside, there are a ton of new food places as well, together with old favourites. Here’s our list of 22 must-try food places in the new Funan Mall!

1. Afuri Ramen + Dumpling 阿夫利

Funan Mall Afuri Ramen Dumplings 1

Tokyo’s famous yuzu ramen eatery is finally making its way to Singapore. Afuri Ramen +Dumpling is one of the many F&B outlets and restaurants you can look forward to in the new Funan Mall.

Helmed by two Japanese chefs and one local chef, you can expect refreshing and delicious yuzu ramen and gyoza’s in this 73-seater space.

Choose from the signature Yuzu Shio Ramen (S$15.90) or Yuzu Shoyu Ramen (S$15.90), which comes with either shio (salt) based broth or shoyu (soy sauce) based broth respectively. Infused with the citrus yuzu scent, the ramen comes with a chicken oil dashi soup base.

Spice lovers can enjoy the Yuzu Ratan Ramen (S$15.90), which comes with a fiery broth that’ll set your tongue tingling.

2. avobites

We just can’t get enough of avocados and avocado-themed food, can we?

Funan Mall Avobites 1

For those of you who love this superfood as much as I do, avobites is here to satisfy those cravings. The kiosk uses avocado in every dish on the menu, so you can look forward to a wide selection of avocado dishes.

Funan Mall Avobites 3

From signature avocado bowls to the classic avocado toast, to refreshing avocado coconut smoothies, you’ll be spoilt for choice.

avobites: #B2-K08 | Opening Hours: 7.30am – 10pm (Mon to Fri), 10am – 10pm (Sat & Sun) | Facebook

3. BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse

Funan Mall Bizen Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse 1

Wagyu beef isn’t always the cheapest, but the Astons group has blessed us with affordable waygu from BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse. They’ve already opened one restaurant  in NomadX at Plaza Singapura, and this speciality steakhouse is opening in Funan Mall too.

Bizen Wagyu Bar 5 (feature)

Since BIZEN imports the whole cow carcass and ages the meat in-house, cuts of the meat are limited and diners will have to check on their Facebook page. If it’s anything like their Plaza Singapura outlet, the meats will be glorious.

BIZEN-Wagyu-Bar-10

Take a bite of the deliciously fatty Striploin (S$29.90/single, S$56.90/double up). Decadent, savoury and tender, it’s definitely worth the price.

BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse: #B2-22 | Tel: +65 6970 0481 | Opening Hours: 11.30am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

4. Butterknife Folk

Funan Mall Butterknife Folk 1

Butterknife Folk definitely has us screaming for ice cream. Or rather, small-batch artisanal gelato that’s made from scratch, and comes in unique flavours.

Funan Mall Butterknife Folk 2

Their outlet at Funan Mall will feature a rotating selection of flavours, which changes daily. How exciting! At S$5 for a Single Scoop and S$9 for a Double Scoop, it’s a little pricey but the unique flavours will be more than worth it.

For their opening at Funan Mall, you can look forward to intriguing flavours like Matcha Straccia, Baileys Mudslide, Blueberry Lavender and more.

The controversial Chicken Rice Gelato is also making a comeback, and it’s surprisingly good – at least to me. This flavour even comes with bits of rice, the iconic black sauce and chilli!

Butterknife Folk: #02-02 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

5. Fireless Kitchen

Funan Mall Fireless Kitchen 5

Sous vide is a cooking method that’s been all the rage these days, but can you imagine an eatery that only cooks their ingredients in a controlled water bath? That’s exactly what Fireless Kitchen does.

Funan Mall Fireless Kitchen 3

Serving up healthy salads and protein bowls at fairly affordable prices, a meal at Fireless Kitchen is both yummy and healthy. Choose your protein as the base: Sous Vide Chilli Garlic Tofu (S$10.90), Sous Vide Chicken Pesto (S$11.90), 12-Hours Sous Vide BBQ Pork Belly (S$13.90), Sous Vide Marinated Beef (S$14.90) or Sous Vide Lemon Herb Salmon (S$15.90).

Each bowl comes with the choice of one protein, one staple (carbs and vegetables) and three companions.

Funan Mall Fireless Kitchen 6

Their 12-Hour Sous Vide BBQ Pork Belly is an absolute must-try. Pair it with something unique like the lovely Miso Glazed Carrots, add in more ingredients and you’ll have a healthy meal.

Fireless Kitchen: #02-04 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

6. Godmama

Funan Mall Godmama 1

Craving Peranakan fare? Godmama is a new modern Peranakan restaurant and bar in Funan Mall that you have to try. They serve up traditional Peranakan delicacies, and the recipes have been passed down through the generations.

Funan Mall Godmama 2

Just thinking about the All-Star Egg Skin Popiah (S$6.50) and the signature Babi Assam (S$17.90) makes my mouth water! These are both pretty spicy dishes, so spice lovers, this is right up your alley.

Funan Mall Godmama 4

The mix of blue-hued and white rice that comes with the Babi Assam makes it especially Instagram-worthy.

Funan Mall Godmama 5

You can munch on crispy and juicy chunks of the Ngoh Hiang (S$9.90) if you’re just a little bit peckish. Or share it as a side dish together with other dishes!

Funan Mall Godmama 3

The Nyonya influence extends to their drinks menu too, with the likes of Peranakan Blue (S$22) which actually changes colours after tonic water is poured into the butterfly pea flower gin.

Funan Mall Godmama 7

The Emperor Of Melaka (S$22) is a decent rendition of the classic old-fashioned, with a sweeter finish. For something more refreshing, Nenas Knows Best (S$22) is a mezcal and rum cocktail with pineapple jam that’ll make you think of pineapple tarts.

7. Gocha Bar 果汁吧

Funan Mall Gocha Bar 1

We’ve seen a lot of Taiwanese bubble tea brands, but Gocha Bar 果汁吧 is something different. This juice bar serves up juices, yoghurt drinks, smoothies and more, all made with 100% natural ingredients.

Funan Mall Gocha Bar 3

The Smoothies series comes with fresh milk for a creamier mouthfeel. I tried the Apple + Strawberry + Milk (S$5.50), which was luscious but still refreshing. They make it with real strawberries, too.

For something a little more tart, the Grapefruit + Passionfruit + Pineapple (S$5) is a good choice. You can tell it’s made with real fruits from the pulpy bits in the drink, and it’s even topped with half a slice of grapefruit.

Funan Mall Gocha Bar 2

The space is also super Instagram-worthy, with neon lights and lots of greenery. Time for a new Instagram profile pic?

Gocha Bar 果汁吧: #02-36 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

8. Gong Yuan Ma La Tang 宫源麻辣汤

The mala hype is still going strong, so here’s something for you spice lovers when you’re in Funan Mall.

Funan Mall Gong Yuan Ma La Tang 1

Spacious and clean, this mala eatery is furnished simply with light wooden tables and chairs. Unlike the more common mala xiang guo places that serve their mala dry and stir-fried, Gong Yuan Ma La Tang 宫源麻辣汤 does a mean mala soup base.

The soup isn’t too spicy or oily (like those with a layer of chilli oil floating on top), so it’ll be drinkable even for those with low spice tolerance. You can choose two other milder soup bases, the Pork Broth or Pickled Vegetables.

Funan Mall Gong Yuan Ma La Tang 2

Like most mala places, you get to pick your meats, vegetables and other ingredients. They display all the ingredients in neat rows on the shelves, so customers can just take the ingredients they want. Gong Yuan Ma La Tang charges around S$2.28 for 100g of ingredients, which is a fairly reasonable price.

Gong Yuan Ma La Tang 宫源麻辣汤: #B2-09 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm | Facebook | Instagram

9. HAWKERMAN

Funan Mall Hawkerman 1

If you and your friends can’t agree on a place to eat, then perhaps HAWKERMAN will solve that problem. This multi-stall concept can be found at SingPost Centre too, and it brings together multiple food brands.

The outlet in Funan includes Tenderfresh, Warong Kim and Ah Boy’s. Each brand has signature dishes but there are also dishes which combine elements from all three brands.

Hawkerman 7

The Skinny Popiah (S$4.90) comes with crispy chicken skin, Ah Boy’s signature “rainbow” filling (seven different vegetables) and it’s drizzled with luscious salted egg sauce. This combination is super yummy, and the salted egg sauce doesn’t overpower it.

HAWKERMAN: #B2-18 | Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

10. Kara-Men 辛面 by Ajisen

Funan Mall Kara Men 1

For those who enjoy their ramen spicy, Kara-Men 辛面 by Ajisen has opened in Funan Mall.

Funan Mall Kara Men By Ajisen Ramen 2 online

The kara-men is a really hot dish from Miyazaki prefecture in Japan, and the spicy ramen broth comes with fluffy eggs. The eatery offers Original Kara-Men (S$9.90), Original Kara-Men With Pork Shabu (S$12.90) and Original Kara-Men With Cha Shu (S$12.90/two pieces, S$13.90/four pieces).

If spice isn’t your thing, Kara-Men also serves up paitan ramen, which is the usual broth with vinegar added to it. You can choose from Pork Shabu Tonkotsu Paitan Ramen (S$12.90) or Cha Shu Tonkotsu Paitan Ramen (S$12.90/two pieces, S$13.90/four pieces).

It might be worth getting a taste of these unique ramen broths if you’re in the area!

Kara-Men 辛面: #B2-25 | Tel: +65 6513 0272 | Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

11. LIAO FAN Hawker Chan

Funan Mall Liao Fan Hawker Chan 1

LIAO FAN Hawker Chan started as a humble hawker stall selling Hong Kong style soy sauce chicken.

After three consecutive years of getting one Michelin star in 2016, 2017 and 2018, the latest outlet in Funan Mall is the fourth in Singapore. He even has outlets in Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and Australia!

Made with fresh and premium ingredients, the signature Soy Sauce Chicken Rice (S$3.80) comes with tender chicken underneath a glistening layer of skin, all atop a bed of rice.

Given the price point (most dishes are under S$5), I’m sure this will become a popular lunch spot for nearby office workers.

LIAO FAN Hawker Chan: #01-03 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

12. Milksha

This Taiwanese brand only uses 100% natural milk for its drinks, with no preservatives, chemical ingredients or artificial colouring used.

Funan Mall Milksha 1

Even better, Milksha’s outlet in Funan Mall is housed in a cute yellow truck! Look forward to best-sellers like the Fresh Handmade Taro Milk (S$5.60), Valrhona 100% Cocoa Milk (S$4.80), Azuki Matcha Milk (S$5.60) and Brown Sugar Milk (S$4.60, +S$1 for honey pearls).

Funan Mall Milksha 3

The Fresh Handmade Taro Milk is a popular choice because it comes with hand-mashed Taiwanese taro. Creamy, smooth and subtly sweet, this is a great drink for those who are health-conscious but still want to indulge.

Funan Mall Milksha 2

For something more decadent, the Valrhona 100% Cocoa Milk is a luxurious chocolate milk drink that’ll hit all the right spots. Rich and very chocolatey, you can get a lower sugar level if you prefer the bittersweet taste of dark chocolate.

The Funan outlet didn’t have the full menu available when we visited, though I have high hopes that all the drinks will be available soon.

Milksha: #02-K07 | Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

13. Nasty Cookie

Funan Mall Nasty Cookie 3

Walk past this Tiffany Blue storefront, and you’ll want to slow your steps. Nasty Cookie has arrived in Funan Mall!

Funan Mall Nasty Cookie 4

Founder Regine Sum initially started Nasty Cookie as a side hustle, but it has since become a full-time, full-fledged cookie business. Each cookie weighs about 85g — talk about sinful indulgence!

Funan Mall Nasty Cookie 2

Take a bite of the Biscoff Cookie (S$4.90) for that hit of nostalgia. Topped with a lotus biscuit, this cookie had a slightly fudgy centre.

Psst, keep a lookout for the Royal Truffle (S$5.90) that will be released in August 2019.

Nasty Cookie: #02-35 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

14. Nayuki

Funan Mall Nayuki 1

China’s most popular fruit tea and bakery café has opened yet another outlet in Singapore. The outlet in Funan Mall is Nayuki’s second one, with their first in VivoCity.

Nayuki is famous for pairing tea with their bread, so this could be your next afternoon tea break spot.

Credit – Nayuki

The Strawberry Blush Mystique Bread (S$6.80) goes well with the Supreme Cheese Strawberry Fruit Tea (S$8.30), with plenty of sweetness. The portion of the bread is actually good for sharing, so you’ll want to get a few friends to come along.

Nayuki: #01-01 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

15. Noka by Open Farm Community

Funan Mall Noka By Open Farm Community 1

‘Noka’ means ‘farmhouse’ in Japanese, and Noka by Open Farm Community is Singapore’s first rooftop urban farm, complete with a 75-seater Japanese restaurant.

Funan Mall Noka By Open Farm Community 2

Located on the seventh floor of Funan Mall, this restaurant is great for a quiet date night. If you’re feeling fancy, you can splurge on their six-course Omakase (S$150).

Sashimi, sushi, grilled dishes — what’s not to like?

16. Paddyfolks

Funan Mall Paddyfolks 3

Tired of seeing your Instagram flooded with poke bowls, acai bowls and whatever else? Get back to basics with Paddyfolks, a customisable rice box concept on the second floor of Funan Mall.

Whether it’s grab-and-go or a quick sit-down meal, Paddyfolks serves up flavourful rice with an extensive menu of ingredients and sauces. Choose from Regular (S$9.90) with one protein, Medium (S$12.90) with two proteins, or Large (S$15.90) with three proteins.

Each rice box also comes with one choice of base carbs, three supplements, one sauce and garnish.

Their rice isn’t just plain white rice; it comes infused with different flavours like Cilantro Lime, Garlic Butter, Tomato Oregano and the seasonal Tom Yum.

Funan Mall Paddyfolks 2

Try their Signature Fried Chicken With Garlic Butter Rice, which pairs crispy and tender fried chicken with savoury and fragrant garlic butter rice.

Funan Mall Paddyfolks 1

For something more tangy, the Teriyaki Chicken With Tomato Oregano Rice will hit the spot. With the savoury sweetness of the teriyaki sauce and tangy rice, I’m sure you’ll be polishing off the whole box.

Paddyfolks: #02-37/38 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

17. The Oyster Bank

Funan Mall The Oyster Bank 1

Who would’ve thought you could find an oyster bar in Funan Mall? The Oyster Bank is a casual-luxe dining spot serving up fresh oysters and Japanese rice bowls.

The cosy 41-seater space has lovely accents of forest green, brass and gold, playing into the luxury vibes but still keeping it light for more casual diners.

Funan Mall The Oyster Bank 2

For oyster purists, the only way to enjoy oysters is Naked (S$2.90/piece, S$16.50/6 pieces, S$30/12 pieces). But if you need more condiments, choose from Mignonette, Ponzu or Bloody Mary, all priced at S$3.90/piece, S$22.50/6 pieces, S$39/12 pieces.

Funan Mall The Oyster Bank 3

Each plump and juicy oyster was super fresh and creamy, without the dreaded lingering brine.

Funan Mall The Oyster Bank 4

If you’re not a big fan of oysters, the Spicy Salmon & Bara Chirashi Don (S$17.90) is great for you. Piled high atop a bed of fluffy rice, the mix of spicy salmon and fresh chirashi cubes is quite addictive.

Psst, they’re running a promotion from now until 3 July 2019, with the dons going at 50% off. During that same period, for just S$55++, you can get a dozen Naked oysters and a bottle of prosecco.

I guess luxury doesn’t always have to break the bank!

The Oyster Bank: #02-32 | Tel: +65 6970 0477 | Opening Hours: 10am – 12am (Daily) | Facebook

18. The Dark Gallery

Chocolate lovers, this will probably be your favourite part of Funan Mall.

Funan Mall The Dark Gallery 2

The Dark Gallery has a cosy space on the first floor of Funan Mall, perfect for a short break after exploring the mall.

You’ll definitely have to get the Single Origin Dark Chocolate Ice Cream (S$5.50 for a single scoop) which has bittersweet notes, so if you love 90% dark chocolate, you’ll enjoy this.

the dark gallery singapore

If you want to try a little of everything, then the Single Origin Dark Chocolate Pastries Platter (S$14). It even comes with a chart explaining acidity, intensity and tasting notes for each type of chocolate.

the dark gallery singapore

The platter includes macarons with 64% Madagascan chocolate, a tartlet with 66% Ecuadorian dark chocolate ganache, toasted s’more with a disc of 70% Dominican Republic dark chocolate, and trifle with 72% Venezuelan dark chocolate mousse and brownie.

The Dark Gallery: #01-14 | Tel: +65 6908 4086 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily)| Facebook | Website

19. Tiong Bahru Bakery

Funan Mall Tiong Bahru Bakery 1

There’s just something about bakeries, and the smell of baking bread…mmm. Tiong Bahru Bakery has opened a 90-seater concept in Funan Mall, with all the artisanal bread you can eat.

Funan Mall Tiong Bahru Bakery 3

The bakery is famous for their croissants, so we had to try the Green Tea Almond Croissant (S$5.20). Buttery and light, the flaky and crispy croissant skin is also dusted with powdered sugar for extra decadence. There’s even matcha filling within the flaky pastry, so I definitely count this as a win.

Funan Mall Tiong Bahru Bakery 4

Another of their signature pastries is the Original Kouign Amann (S$4.50). This glazed pastry is huge! Caramelised, sugar-coated and absolutely delicious, this is enough for breakfast AND tea break.

The Funan Mall outlet also serves up hot food, so you can grab a meal here too.

Tiong Bahru Bakery: #04-22/23/24/25 | Tel: +65 6877 4866 | Opening Hours: 8am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Website

20. Took Lae Dee

Bangkok’s most famous 24/7 eatery has opened yet another outlet in Singapore at Funan Mall, which is more accessible than their original outlet in Tai Seng.

Funan Mall Took Lae Dee 1

The Thai food at Took Lae Dee is really authentic, considering that the ingredients are air-flown from Thailand whenever possible. What’s really exciting is definitely the low price point — you can get a hearty meal for under S$10.

took lae dee - 8

If you’re on a budget, the Pad Krapow With Minced Chicken/Pork (S$5) is your best bet. Not only is it wallet-friendly, but it’ll also wow you with its bursts of flavour.

Top up S$1.20 for the crispy Thai fried egg, and break the yolk over the rice for a mouthful of creamy and savoury goodness.

Took Lae Dee: #01-02 | Opening Hours: 11am – 9pm (Daily) | Facebook

21. Trufflelicious by The Travelling C.O.W.

Did you know that truffle is sometimes also known as ‘black gold’? The most expensive truffle in the world was sold for S$140 per gram!

Funan Mall Trufflelicious By The Travelling C.o.w. 1

Here at Trufflelicious by The Travelling C.O.W., they use real truffles for the dishes (none of that truffle oil here!). And yes, every dish here has truffles.

Funan Mall Trufflelicious By The Travelling C.o.w. 2

The Truffle Sukiyaki Beef Don (S$12/small, S$16/large) is your typical beef don with thinly-sliced beef, onsen egg and fluffy Japanese rice.

It also comes with actual truffle shavings and boy, does it pack a punch. Every mouthful came with the strong truffle fragrance, though the amount was probably too little to taste the characteristic earthy and nutty notes.

Funan Mall Trufflelicious By The Travelling C.o.w. 3

If you just feel like snacking, the Truffle Mac & Cheese Balls (S$10) is one cheesy bite you can’t miss. The crispy outer layer hides a gooey mac ‘n’ cheese centre. Topped with truffle shavings, each bite oozes with cheesy goodness.

Trufflelicious by The Travelling C.O.W.: #02-K06 | Opening Hours: 10am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook

22. Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles

Funan Mall Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles 1

Fancy dining at a Michelin-starred ramen place? Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles from Tokyo has opened an outlet in Funan Mall.

Tsuta doesn’t just stick to traditional ramen dishes, and they even experiment with Western ingredients like truffle and olive oil. They use pork collar instead of pork belly in the ramen, as pork collar is more tender with lower fat content.

You have to try their signature Shoyu Ramen and Shio Ramen at S$15 each. It’s served with a dollop of black truffle puree on top, adding fragrant notes to the light broth.

Tsuta-9

The noodles are handmade with a combination of four whole wheat and whole grain flours, and had a smooth texture like soba. Together with the bamboo shoot pieces and ajitama (flavoured egg), this makes for a really hearty meal.

Tsuta Japanese Soba Noodles: #01-04 | Opening Hours: 11am – 10pm (Daily) | Facebook | Instagram | Website
