New in town: Joya Onsen, Jurong — Experience the joys of unwinding with spa and sushi

We have been unearthing hidden gems in the lands of Singapore’s West, and more recently, the rising trend of having a taste of Japan here with sprouting cafes and now, an onsen. Situated an eight-minute walk from Singapore Discovery Centre, Joya Onsen lies in the heart of Upper Jurong, with offerings of an Ice Bath, Sauna, Japanese nosh, and more, for you to bask in a hot spring of tranquillity.

This beautiful onsen incorporates the essence of Japanese bathhouses in its design and facilities. Take your pick of an Onsen bath (private or public), Ice bath and Sauna, and relax at their Zen garden after your luxuriating spa session. Imbued with minimalistic, earthy tones and wooden furniture like the beloved tatami tea tables, Joya Onsen is filled with emblems of Japan put together in a snazzy and cosy manner.

Of course, you can expect all things Japanese here, and the cafe at Joya Onsen is no exception, with inspiration from Japanese roadside ramen-ya and izakaya, for a taste of simply dining along their streets again.

How can we miss out on our sushi, sashimi, and Japan’s iconic ice creams? Snag up pieces of their Fresh Salmon Sashimi (S$22.20 for 10 pieces) while sipping on their selection of teas, from the classic Green Tea (S$3) to their Hokkaido Milk Honey Green Tea (S$4.50)—the essence of Japanese drinks in a cup.

Also, as a sweet round-up to your meal, indulge in some ice cream treats such as their Hokkaido Honey Milk Ice Cream (S$3.40) and a few other delicious combinations. If you’re a fan of the greek yoghurt alternative, the Mini Ichigo San (S$5.80), a melange of condensed milk, strawberry, aloe vera and cornflakes, would surely satiate your craving for a treat without running heavy on the calories.

Indulge in this onsen experience without breaking your bank. Entrance fees start from S$32 for children ages 3 to 16, and senior citizens aged 65 and above, to S$38 for adults. A number of packages are also available, and you can even spend the night in the onsen for an additional S$25 per night.
