Having replaced former Tiong Bahru Galicier Pastry‘s location, Le Royale Patisserie SG along Tiong Bahru Road serves old Singaporean favourites with modern cakes worthy of the patisserie name!
We are all not surprised by fanciful desserts anymore, considering how cafes are churning them out in hopes of popularity. However, this is the first time I have seen them in a local Taiwanese bakery.
One such example would be Le Royale Patisserie SG’s Mango Cake (S$6.80). With such vibrant, realistic colours, I almost fell for the cake’s deception. Though the description of the cake is ambiguous, their website shows that there is passionfruit jelly embedded into the cake.
However, one look at their Facebook page would show that they are proud of their custom decorated cakes. It is easy to see why, as I scrolled through to see many varieties of cakes showing their chef’s expertise. Despite being a local bakery, Le Royale Patisserie SG is no stranger to using fondant, using such to craft bows or even figures!
Le Royale Patisserie SG still focuses on their roots, offering local bakes like Sausage Rolls (S$2) and Hong Kong Char Siew Buns (S$2.80). Look at that delicious browning!
To cater to the modern crowd, they also offer intriguing items like Milk Shake Buns (S$2.80), which are said to be filled with vanilla cream with less sugar. The one I am personally eyeing is the Matcha Polo Bun (S$2.20). Would it be bitter because of the matcha bun, or would the mango filling give that hit of sweetness first? There is only 1 way to find out!
Tiong Bahru has always been a place bustling with foodies, thanks to shops like the famed Tiong Bahru Bakery and Tiong Bahru Fried Kway Teow. Perhaps, there is now another place to visit when you are lingering about in the area.
