Quick Summary

Lucky Wantan Mee at Blk 40 Beo Crescent in Tiong Bahru serves a small menu of wanton and dumpling noodles, with attention on mild flavours, notably silky mee kia and dumpling soup noodles that stood out more than the wantons. Useful for nearby residents or diners who prefer lighter seasoning, the stall opens 6am–12.30pm Sat–Thu, takes cash only and sits a short walk from Tiong Bahru MRT, making it a convenient rather than destination-worthy stop.

Whenever I tell people that I stay in Tiong Bahru, many will reply, “Oh, I heard there’s a lot of good food there, you must enjoy staying there!”

In reality, I haven’t explored much of the food in Tiong Bahru, so hearing this statement made me want to discover more. So, when a resident nearby told me about her favourite stall, Lucky Wantan Mee at Blk 40 Beo Crescent, I was eager to try it.

Based on her recommendation, I decided to look for the stall. Unfortunately, with my poor sense of direction, I failed to find the coffeeshop where it was located. That was 2 years ago.

Fast-forward to now. As an intern at Sethlui.com, I was given the chance to try any food spot of my choice, and I remembered my failed hunt for Lucky Wantan Mee. I decided to embark on the search again, this time with my parents.

With their expert navigation skills, we found the stall. Turns out, when I was walking in circles 2 years ago, while the coffeeshop was right next to me!

While ordering the food, I engaged in small talk with the Aunty manning the stall. She was very friendly, and after hearing that this was my first visit, she shared their opening hours just in case I wanted to drop by again.

If you’re planning to visit, take note that their opening hours differ from what’s stated on Google. The stall is open from 6am – 12.30pm from Sat to Thu, and closed on Fri!

What to order at Lucky Wantan Mee

At Lucky Wantan Mee, there were only 4 items on the menu: Wanton Noodle (S$4.50), Dumpling Noodle (S$5), Chicken Feet Noodle (S$5) and Dumpling Soup (S$5).

We decided to order the dry wanton noodles and soup dumpling noodles. When I tried to pay, I was surprised to learn that they don’t accept digital payments. Luckily, we had cash on us!

At first glance, the food didn’t look too appealing. My mum commented that the vegetables were partially undercooked and the noodles appeared dry.

But after mixing the noodles, we realised that the sauce was hidden at the bottom! While wanton noodle sauce is usually savoury with a subtle sweetness, the sauce here leans towards the bland side. But as someone who enjoys milder flavours, my mum said it was just nice!

For those who prefer a stronger taste, the magic comes when you add the green chilli. The combined sweetness and sourness of the chilli add so much flavour to the noodles!

One Mouth Noodle 一口麵: Handmade wanton noodles with excellent char siew in Yishun

The char siew slices were thinly cut and mildly sweet. Neither juicy nor too dry, just your average char siew.

lucky wantan mee - wantons

When it came to the wantons, both my mum and I were slightly disappointed. There was not much filling within the wanton, and while the outer skin was silky, it seemed a little dry on the inside.

Our experience with the wantons wasn’t completely negative, though. We liked how they did not have as much pepper in them compared to other wanton stalls. Perfect for us!

Upon trying the dumplings, we agreed that they were better than the wantons. The dumplings were generously filled with meat and prawn, and didn’t have the same dry texture as the wantons.

I also enjoyed the soup. Its light, savoury taste felt comforting and warmed my stomach.

While the dry mee kia had a smooth texture, the soup noodles were even more silky! I don’t think I’ve ever had mee kia that felt so silky before, so this definitely made Lucky Wantan Mee stand out!

Our favourite dish? For us, the winner was the dumpling soup noodles, its huge filling and silky noodles won us over!

How to get to Lucky Wantan Mee

The nearest MRT station is Tiong Bahru (EW17). Head towards exit B and walk for roughly 5 minutes. If you’re poor at navigation like me, just note that Blk 40 is right next to Beo Crescent Market. Once you find the block, it’ll be easy to locate the coffeeshop!

Do we recommend Lucky Wantan Mee?

Personally, I think there are better wanton noodle stalls, but everyone has different food preferences. The Aunty who recommended this stall definitely loves their wanton noodles, and there are positive Google reviews as well! Of course, there are also some negative reviews; maybe you could try Lucky Wantan Mee and see where you stand.

I can't cook, but I can eat and tell you if the food is good. I love almost everything that goes with coriander, spring onions or vinegar, but absolutely hate ginger and garlic.
