Do you ever get that feeling where you want to ditch the usual rice and noodles and just settle for a great sandwich instead? I know I do. There’s just something so satisfying about chewing on a plethora of hearty ingredients stuffed between 2 pieces of fluffy bread.
Well, if you’re working around the CBD and having such a mood, swing by Mamma Mia Focaccia for some lovely house-made focaccia sandwiches at 94 Amoy Street.

This quaint grab-and-go deli bids farewell to tables and chairs, so you can’t hang around and have your daily conversations. Mamma Mia Focaccia is jointly run by Chef-owner Houssein from Spain, who has been living in Singapore for over 12 years, and Chef Nico from Italy, who has made Singapore his home for over 9 years. Together, they bring a small slice of Europe’s street food culture to Singaporeans.

Crafted with loads of olive oil and fermented for hours, their handcrafted focaccia is made fresh daily (Mondays to Fridays) and delivered to the eatery twice a day.
This allows customers to savour only the freshest bread (no overnight ones). The menu at Mamma Mia Focaccia focuses on 9 types of savoury options and a single sweet one. If you’re feeling parched or need a morning perk-me-up, look forward to beverages like Flat White (S$6), and Double Espresso (S$5). There’s also Hojicha Latte and Matcha Latte (S$7 each) joining the lineup real soon.

Now, onto the main affair — the focaccia options. We kickstarted our early breakfast with the Mamma Mia! (S$22), consisting of thinly-sliced spiced mortadella bologna IGP, creamy stracciatella, pistachio cream, and lastly dusted with pistachio shavings. The ham was decadent and soft while the cheese and pistachio made it a little more luxe.

Consisting of grilled zucchini, red pesto, mascarpone, pickled onions, tomatoes and grilled artichokes, the Vegetariano (S$14) wasn’t just any meatless club sandwich with sliced lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. The array of substantial vegetables gives the focaccia a lovely texture and zing coming from the red pesto’s sun-dried tomatoes and brined artichokes.
As someone who is into vegetables these days, I would come back for the Vegetariano anytime!

To balance out all the savouriness that we consumed, we ended the morning with the Nutella (S$14). Spread with indulgent Nutella, the richness of the hazelnut spread is toned down with the addition of mascarpone, pistachio cream and pistachio shavings.

If you’re craving some Italian sandwiches with freshly sliced cold cuts, then come by Mamma Mia Focaccia on weekdays from 8am to 4.30pm!
