There’s a saying that if something works, you should do it more. Meow Mee seemed to think so, with their recognisable cute cat branding and Sarawak flavours. Yet, everything seemed to be pointing the other way for them. With some success under their belt, they had opened a branch stall that met a swift closing this year alone. The sad news doesn’t end as they announced this month that their Geylang East main stall will be closing as well come 30 Oct.

The post on their social media came as an unfortunate shock. Just as recently as 12 Oct, they added the Kolo White Wanton Mee (S$5) and the Kolo Mee Seafood Soup Set (S$7.50) to their menu, looking as if they were innovating and trying to improve. But it seemed like no amount of cute cats and oily fragrant noodles prevented their recent announcement.

As mentioned, Meow Mee’s sister stall has already experienced this unfortunate outcome. It opened earlier this year on 2 Apr at Bukit Panjang Ring. On its opening, they introduced a new item to the menu, the Sarawak Kolo Mee Original Soup (S$6.50). The Dry version (S$5.50) is their staple dish.

Despite the new revenue for more potential income, things came to a swift end. The Bukit Panjang Ring branch closed its doors on 30 Sep. On this branch’s closing announcement post, Meow Mee still reminded everyone about their main branch.

Along with tearful thanks to those who supported them, their post cited unforeseen circumstances to explain the choice to close. Although bittersweet, they will continue to operate until the last day. To give a cat on its last legs a happier sendoff, do consider dropping by for a final bowl of noodles from them.
