New in town: Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee, Bukit Batok — Legendary hokkien mee opens third outlet in the West

Some say Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee is the best hokkien mee in Singapore. With snaking queues at its original outlet at Old Airport Road Food Centre and multiple features on broadcast and the web (including Channel 8, CNA and Channel U), you’ll be hard-pressed to find another stall to take the throne.

Westies will be delighted to know that Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee is opening its third outlet at Bukit Batok West on 10 February 2022, so you no longer have to travel to Old Airport Road to enjoy a plate of its iconic hokkien mee.

Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee has been dishing out hokkien mee since 1963, making it a whopping 59 years since former Mr Ng Tong set up his stall in Simon Road Wet Market. They moved to Old Airport Road Food centre in the 1990s, and expanded to ION Orchard’s Hawkers’ Street in June 2021.

After Mr Ng Tong passed away, the current owner — Mr Ng Hock Wah — took over, and he has been skilfully managing the stall since then.

Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee’s third and newest outlet will be located at 177 Bukit Batok West Avenue 8, in a kopitiam called Get Together.

While their newest outlet’s menu isn’t out yet, we hope that the items and prices won’t stray too far from their original outlet at Old Airport Road Food Centre.

At the Old Airport Road Food Centre outlet, a plate of Hokkien Mee costs S$5 (small) or S$8 (big). It’s drier than your typical hokkien mee, and they only use bee hoon and yellow noodles.

In addition, the stall doesn’t use sambal belacan, but provides cut chilli padi on the side so as to not overpower the original wok hei flavour.

If you’re planning to visit its newest outlet, we suggest going down early to chope your place in the queue, because Nam Sing Hokkien Fried Mee is also known for its long queues. Waiting times can often stretch into an hour or more, depending on the timing.
