Get Tipsy With Paradise Dynasty’s New Range Of Alcoholic Xiao Long Bao Avail Now Till 19 Jan 2020

I love my xiao long bao, and the mere thought of its steamy meat juice oozing through the grooves of my tongue just sends me immediately to heaven.

When it comes to experimenting and playing with xiao long bao flavours, Paradise Dynasty has got to be the daredevil—after all, they were the ones that brought us the legendary black truffle, foie gras, and Szechuan xiao long bao that to date, left an immense impression in my mind.

This dim sum basket of sweet intoxication holds five pieces of xiao long bao, individually filled with different distilled spirit—Tsing Tao Beer, Red Wine With Cheese, Shaoxing Rice Wine, The Glenlivet Scotch Whiskey and Martell Cognac—that is sure to pump you up with the perfect dose of liquid courage any time of the day.

Upon the order of our Tipsy Surprise Xiao Long Bao, we were presented with an information card that taught us the best way to enjoy this series of unique soup dumplings to get the optimum taste of all the flavours.

According to the card, we were encouraged to follow a sequence, starting with the lightest—Tsing Tao Beer flavour, before slowly working our way up to booze level, ending with the full-bodied Martell Cognac flavour.

Out of all the five, my favourite was definitely the Red Wine And Cheese as the taste of red wine paired perfectly with the juice from the pork filling. Unlike other flavours which totally overpowered the sweetness of the pork, the proportion of alcohol in this xiao long bao managed to hit the right spot. Besides that, the cheese that was mixed into the pork filling also brought a different level of texture and creaminess which I very much enjoyed.

The Shaoxing Rice Wine xiao long bao was another flavour that hit home for me. Well, I guess you can never go wrong with Shaoxing since it is so commonly used as a cooking wine in Chinese cuisine. Upon biting into the soup dumpling, I could taste the vinegary and slightly spicy note of the rice wine which was mild and comforting—ideal for consuming on wet rainy days (as coincidence would have it, it was raining outside as we were savouring the xiao long bao).

Let me just put this out there, I am not a fan of hard liquor. With that said, the Glenlivet Scotch Whiskey and Martell Cognac flavours certainly did not win any of my votes.

The Glenlivet Scotch Whiskey xiao long bao had an oaky profile of sweet vanilla and honey notes whilst the Martell Cognac xiao long bao was full-bodied and smoky. Both flavours were punchy as I bit into them, and as a result of my low tolerance towards the woody and slightly burnt oak taste, I was totally defeated.

If you enjoy a glass of Whiskey or Martell on the rocks, these xiao long bao will surely delight you in many ways. Already finding these alcoholic treats irresistible? Here’s some good news!
