Recently opened along Canal Road, PIVOT is a quaint little cafe that has a succinct menu serving desserts and drinks. With a pretty interior and charming little cakes, we had to go check it out for ourselves.

Given its location, it’s probably really popular with the Raffles Place lunch crowd, so visit them during off-peak hours if you’re hoping to sit yourself down and sip on a cuppa.

Made from hojicha genoise, hojicha mousse, and apple compote, the Oh! Gee Cha (S$8.50) cake would’ve done better with a crunch like granola clusters on top. Otherwise, it’s an inoffensive tea-time snack.

Pivot 2

The consensus at the table was that the Fields of Yellow (S$8) cake was the better of the two desserts that we tried, contrary to customer feedback. The soft cheesecake on top contrasted really well against the crumbly biscuit base, and the kinako powder brought an interesting flavour profile to the dish.

Pivot 5

The sure way to my heart is always a hearty ole’ egg mayo sandwich, so the Tamago Sando (S$7) at PIVOT was one of the more exciting menu items for me. Made with Shokupan bread, homemade egg mayo, and sous vide egg, it was a generous and delicious serving.

Pivot 4

We also tried the Iced Lemon Verbena (S$8) and Iced White with Rose Syrup (S$7.50), both of which were refreshing and unique. PIVOT also has other interesting tea blends like the Hojicha Karigane (S$8) and Apple Oolong (S$8) which go by the pot.

The Iced White had a subtle rose fragrance which I wished was stronger, but PIVOT owners explained that they didn’t want the rose syrup to be too overpowering or overwhelming.

Overall, it’s a great post-lunch place to catch up with friends who work in the area, or if you’re looking for a midday pick-me-up.
