River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles has been raved by many media outlets for the longest time and is loved by many locals, hence this place located in the heart of Potong Pasir gets quite crowded during meal times.

A robust bowl of prawn noodles is a must to try when it comes to Singapore’s local food scene.

River South (Hoe Nam) Prawn Noodles will definitely not disappoint with their extensive menu of prawn noodles, from their classic bowls like the Big Prawns And Pork Rib Noodle Bowl, to even Small Prawns And Pork Rib Noodle Bowl.

I arrived at the prawn noodle shop at around 6pm to avoid the dinner crowd. If you are heading down for dinner just like me, do get to the stall around 6pm to grab your bowl of prawn noodles!

To ensure you have the best experience, do have the food there instead of having it take-away.

The three bowls I ordered were the Baby Abalone And Big Prawn Noodles (S$15), the dry version of the Big Prawns And Pork Rib Noodles (S$6), lastly the Small Prawn And Pork Rib Noodles (S$6)

The Baby Abalone And Big Prawn Noodles were priced at S$15. For a hefty price, I expected this pricey dish to impress me.

The baby abalone had a firm texture, and added a unique dimension to the classic take on prawn noodles. There were two baby abalones in this bowl of prawn noodles, along with two enormous prawns.

As I ate the different ingredients and had some of the noodles, I sipped the broth. It was appetising and had a good savoury taste. For the steep price of this dish, I would only suggest this bowl of prawn noodles to those who feel like ballers, as S$15 for a bowl of prawn noodles is pretty expensive given this is at a kopitiam.

The Big Prawns And Pork Rib Noodles, with the dry noodles set aside in a separate bowl, surprised me. The broth was surprisingly sweeter than their usual broth. I personally loved this as it is an interesting change from the usual broth you taste from the classic prawn noodle broth.

Spicy food fanatics, this one’s for you. The noodles were flaming hot, paired with the broth that contains pork ribs and big prawns.

Those that prefer the classic savoury taste to their prawn noodle broth, this dish might not be for you. Even so, I would strongly encourage you to give this a chance to tingle your taste buds.

The prawns will definitely fill you up, given the size of it. It was meaty with medium firm flesh and it complemented the dish well.

At S$6, this dish consists of two big prawns and two pork ribs, with a good amount of noodles that was paired with beansprouts. I find this dish well-executed and affordable, given both the quality and quantity was satisfactory.

Moving on to the Small Prawns And Pork Rib Noodles, this bowl is great for those who love a mix of meats in their dishes.

The small prawns in this dish definitely did not compromise in flavour, and it was substantial despite it having small prawns instead of big prawns.

The pork ribs were so tender that it slid off the bone, which was satisfying and easy to have with the dish.

The Small Prawns And Pork Rib Noodles is a dish I would recommend to those who do not want to be extremely hands-on when it comes to food (as the prawns were already peeled), and still packed a punch without losing flavour.

For those who like variety in their prawn noodle dishes, this place hits the spot! They also serve more exotic choices like pigs tails and intestines for those who are adventurous.

Expected Damage: S$4 – S$15 per pax
