If you’re a regular at Old Airport Road Food Centre, you’ve probably seen or tried Salt for its Korean chicken wings or herbal soups. After closing their Cross Street Exchange outlet a few months ago, they’ve finally opened at basement 1 of CIMB Plaza on 22 Dec 2023, catering to all CBD folks.
For the uninitiated, Salt is operated by a sister and brother duo, 36-year-old Naomi and 28-year-old Kenny, who were featured on Mediacorp’s Buzzing Hawker program back in 2018.
According to my colleague, Celest, who declared that Salt had the best fried chicken wings she has ever tried, you’ll be able to get their range of Signature Korean Fried Chicken Wings (S$6.90 for 4 pieces, S$9.90 for 6 pieces) with flavours like Soy Garlic, Korean Hot, Salt & Pepper and Thai Chilli Lime.
We also tried their brand new flavour (available on their grand opening on 11 Jan 2024), the Auspicious Yuzu Soy Garlic. The familiar sweet and savoury garlic tones were enhanced by the addition of freshly-grated yuzu zest, providing a delightful burst of citrusy freshness.
As part of their grand opening promotion, simply follow Salt.Singapore and Hebrews.Xibutang and share a picture of your food or their pinned post on Facebook or Instagram to be eligible for the following:
Salt
- S$9 nett for Set Meal (add S$3 for 2pc Wings, S$1 for Egg).
Hebrews
- S$10 nett for Soup + Rice (add S$1 for Vege, S$1 for Egg).
From 11 Jan 2024 onwards, they’ll launch a range of new dishes like their Freshly Made Daily Sandos series (S$4.50 for half, S$9 for whole) during breakfast from 10am – 11.30am (Mondays to Fridays).
We sampled the Chicken Spam & Eggs showcasing a grilled neighbourhood old-school bun loaded with thick-cut luncheon meat and truffle scrambled eggs.
Fish Soup Paradise: Brewing one of the finest Teochew fish soups using a decade-old family recipe
The spam is tasty, striking a perfect balance of flavours that harmonise with the fluffy bun and creamy eggs, enhanced by a subtle earthiness from the truffle oil.
There will also be other flavours available like Bulgogi Beef, Tempura Tamago & Cheddar and Signature Sous Vide Soy Chicken— because variety is the spice of life!
During lunch, there will be new rice sets available like Sesame Oil Chicken Set (S$11) and Red Wine Chicken Set (S$11) which includes rice and vegetable of the day.
Since Naomi and Kenny are of Fuzhou descent, the red wine chicken tasted authentic with hints of robust ginger and wine.
Like their Old Airport Road hawker stall, their other brand, Hebrews, will feature a variety of herbal soups, including Ginseng Chicken Collagen Soup (S$12.90) and Imperial Dang Gui Collagen Soup (S$11.90).
If you love the taste of beer but don’t like its after-effects especially during a work day, this place also sells non-alcoholic beer like Heaps Normal Half Day Hazy (S$9.90) and Jukes Sparkling Pinot Noir Drink (S$9.90).
If you’re part of the CBD gang working in Raffles Place, head on down to CIMB Plaza to check out Salt for your next lunch date with your colleagues.
