The famed ice cream vendor, popularly known as the “Ice Cream Uncle“, who was a regular outside Sim Lim Square, has died at the age of 92. Melvin Chew, an administrator of the Hawkers United – Dabao 2020 Facebook group, announced on 22 June 2024 that Uncle Ng died on the night of 21 June.

For decades, Mr Ng Teak Boon has been delighting people with his ice cream sandwiches from his distinctive yellow cart. For more than 6 decades, he was a staple in the Sim Lim neighbourhood, beloved by many.

Regular customers and fans frequently lined up to enjoy his low-cost delights. Mr Ng was known for his old school Block-Ice Cream which you can have in either a cup, cone or wafer.
In a CNA video back in 2017, it was reported that Uncle Ng has not been paying his bills which is why he relied on his then, approximately S$700 income from selling ice cream.

Uncle Ng’s regular customers and fans frequently waited for his low-cost ice cream, and his pleasant smile left a good impression on generations of Singaporeans. Uncle Ng’s warm smile and loyal service have left an indelible effect on generations of Singaporeans.
While Mr Ng’s death may have signalled the end of an era, his contributions to the community and the joy he brought will not be forgotten.
