After shuttering its Sims Vista outlet in May, the iconic Sin Kee Famous Chicken Rice has officially reopened on 9 Jul 2025 at Mei Ling Market & Food Centre, much to the delight of their loyal fans. Though the reason for the brief hiatus remains a mystery, Sin Kee’s heartfelt return has reaffirmed their place amongst Singapore’s chicken rice stalls.

Interestingly, this hawker centre was already home to another stall bearing the Sin Kee name, run by a former employee of the founder. With the return of Niven Leong’s (son of founder Mr Leong Fook Wing) Sin Kee Famous Chicken Rice, the market now boasts a whopping 5 chicken rice stalls. Chicken rice aficionados, you know where to go!
At this new outlet run by Niven, the signature 1 Person Set (S$5.50) remains the star of the show, which comes with a plate of poached chicken rice, vegetables and a side of the day. For the non-breast chicken variations, one plate is slightly pricier at S$6.50.

Poached to perfection, their chicken is gently chilled, drip-dried and hung, resulting in tender meat with a luscious layer of gelatinous fat beneath silky skin. The rice is what sells it for me — fragrant without being overly cloying, perfectly accompanied by piquant chilli. With a hearty bowl of soup to round off the meal, there’s not much more one can ask for.
Fans on social media have been buzzing since the move, with many expressing their excitement in the comments across multiple Facebook posts. Within Sin Kee’s first week back, queues have been consistently long, with early birds lining up even before opening and customers returning just to relive this familiar, velvety chicken rice experience.
Miss Sin Kee Famous Chicken Rice? Now’s the time to drop by Mei Ling Market & Food Centre for your fix. You can even get a few plates from its neighbouring rival stalls! Ah, this is chicken rice paradise indeed.
