Amoy Street is the place to be, as the team behind popular Italian restaurant Scarpetta has launched their newest restaurant along the same street — Smash Street. Smash Street features large, juicy burgers to be savoured in a small, cosy setting.

Smash Street is easily identified by its dark green awning, which makes it stand out among the stretch of eateries by its side. We were lucky enough to get to try out their signature burgers before their official release on 3 Apr.

This restaurant features an open kitchen concept, and diners can have their meals at the counter, making it a feast for both their mouths and eyes. However, seating is pretty limited as the restaurant is more geared towards having a take-away concept.
Every beef patty is handmade, and Smash Street sources its dried trimmings from all over the world. The team went through multiple trial and error cycles, experimenting with the base of a wine glass to shape their beef patties, to create that perfectly round patty featured on their signature burgers.
What we tried at Smash Street

We decided to try both mains, the Classic Burger (S$14) and House Burger (S$17), along with their sides of Fries (S$6) and Chicken Poppers with Chili Crunch Aioli (S$10).
Their menu is not limited to this, as beverages such as Cereal Milk Soft Serve (S$6) and Cornflakes Milkshake (S$8) are on it, but were unavailable when we arrived.

We kicked off our evening with their Classic Burger, which features a toasted, artisanal potato bun with 2 beef patties sandwiched between them and a layer of cheese.
For S$14, we found that this burger was quite large, and it was easy to bite into it as the bun was soft and chewy. Their beef patties were smoky and tender, just the way we liked them.

We could not wait to get our hands on the House Burger, which had add-on options of Pickles or Jalepeno (free), Onion Relish (S$2), or Bacon (S$3).
The key difference between the two burgers, is that the latter has an extra patty, making it 3 patties thick, and an extra slice of cheese. We were advised to get the Jalepeno, which we felt added a good amount of acidity that complemented the meaty, juicy taste of the 3 patties.
Smash Street is only featuring these 2 burgers for the time being, as they wish to focus on perfecting their beef patties before moving on to experimenting with other sources of protein.

Moving on to the sides, the Chicken Poppers with Chili Crunch Aioli came in a rather large portion. We found that the chicken poppers were crunchy and dipping them into the chili crunch aioli made for a savoury and slightly tangy taste that we both really enjoyed.
Despite their small menu, their flavours really do shine through, with only 2 burgers, possibly already cementing themselves as a burger bar worth checking out. To celebrate its opening, Smash Street will be giving away 1,000 free burgers on 3 Apr and 4 Apr.
They are not doing reservations, so do be quick to come down and try these burgers for yourself.
