With the conclusion of the SEA Games 2025, you might be itching to watch more sports events. The good news is you don’t have to wait that long, because 2026 seems to be an even bigger year for sports fans.
1. Tennis Grand Slams

2026 is set to start on a high note with some action in January. The first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian Open, will take place from 18 Jan to 1 Feb. Tennis fans will be served weeks of tournaments that will keep them on the edge of their seats.
What’s even more exciting is that the Australian Open is only at the start of the 2026 season, with the rest of the year featuring 3 other Grand Slams and more than 50 other tournaments. For the full 2026 calendar, refer here.

2. Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics might have just concluded a year ago, but it’s time for its winter counterpart to take the stage. The 2026 Olympic Winter Games will take place across multiple locations in Lombardy and North-east Italy.
Happening from 6 to 22 Feb, viewers can expect to watch a wide range of winter sports, such as alpine skiing, figure skating, ice hockey and more. Ski mountaineering will also be making its debut as part of the Winter Olympics.
Watching these sports that are uncommon for a tropical country like ours will surely be interesting. For those of you who are keen, check out the full schedule of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026 here.

3. Super Bowl LX

When February comes around, it’s American football fans’ turn to celebrate. The National Football League’s (NFL) championship game, Super Bowl LX, will take place on 8 Feb at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Though we do not yet know which 2 teams will compete for the championship title, it’ll surely be an exhilarating game to watch.
Even if you are not an NFL fan, you can still tune in for the halftime show that the Super Bowl has become well-known for. Earlier this year, Kendrick Lamar delivered an iconic performance with a medley of his greatest tracks. A few celebrities also made a surprise appearance. For next year’s halftime show, Puerto Rican rapper and singer Bad Bunny will be headlining.
Personally, for me, the Super Bowl is also traditionally a time to expect movie trailers to drop. So, that is definitely something I am looking out for too.

4. FIFA World Cup 2026

When it comes to major sporting events, few come close to the scale, influence and hype of the FIFA World Cup. And yes, if you were there during 2022’s fairytale ending of Argentina vs. France… It’s been almost 4 years.
This time, the FIFA World Cup is heading to 16 cities across 3 countries — the United States, Mexico and Canada. This will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted by 3 nations and also the first to feature 48 teams instead of 32.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from 11 Jun to 19 Jul, with the final few games expected to be broadcast live on our local channels too.
Though I am not a soccer fan myself, it has become a tradition in my friend group to catch the FIFA World Cup together every 4 years. And I can’t wait.

5. 2026 Asian Games

Bringing things back closer to the region, the 2026 Asian Games will take place from 19 Sep to 4 Oct. This large-scale multi-sports event will be held around Aichi Prefecture in Japan, with Nagoya being the epicentre.
Viewers can expect a wide range of sports events, with Singaporean athletes taking part in some. In the previous Asian Games, local athletes such as Shanti Pereira and Max Maeder brought home gold medals through their various disciplines, making Singapore proud.
The Asian Games next year will definitely be something to tune in for as we support our Singaporean athletes. What is also interesting about next year’s event is the inclusion of e-sports, which will feature tournaments for video games such as Gran Turismo 7 and League of Legends.

6. NBA Playoffs & Finals

Basketball fans, you’re not forgotten. The National Basketball Association’s (NBA) 2025 – 2026 season has already started, with the anticipated NBA Playoffs happening from 18 Apr onwards. This will culminate in the NBA Finals in June, where the next NBA champions will be crowned.
For something less high-stakes but equally entertaining, you can also catch the NBA All-Star 2026 event, which will feature top players in exhibition-style matches and skill challenges. NBA All-Star weekend will be held over the weekend of 13 – 15 Feb, acting as a kind of mid-season mark for players and fans.

7. MLB World Series

Here’s one for the baseball fans, too. The Major League Baseball (MLB) 2026 season’s biggest event, the MLB World Series, will start on 23 Oct. This will pit 2 of the baseball world’s strongest teams against each other to determine the year’s MLB Champions.
This year’s reigning champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, achieved a back-to-back win, a feat that was last accomplished by the New York Yankees 25 years ago. We will have to wait and see if they can continue their successful run into the 2026 season.
