The Burger Coy, a Muslim-owned Western stall that sold affordable yet gourmet-quality burgers, has closed its shutters permanently on 16 Dec 2022 after 7 months at Amoy Street Food Centre.

The Burger Coy - Shop Exterior

In a post on Facebook, The Burger Coy stated a persistent manpower crunch and personal commitments as leading factors to its closure. They also thanked patrons who supported them throughout their time at Amoy Street Food Centre.

In what appears to be faint hints on the future of The Burger Coy, they stated: “Only time will tell and we will be sure to update when there are plans”.

I had the pleasure of reviewing their burgers, The Cheeseburger (S$6.80 for a single patty, S$9.30 for a double) and The Peri-Peri Chicken Burger (S$7.80 for a single patty, S$10.30 for a double).

They also had other options like the Truffle Mushroom Beef Burger (S$8.80 for a single patty, S$11.30 for a double) and The Black Pepper Beef Burger (S$8.80 for a single patty, S$11.30 for a double).

The Burger Coy - The Cheeseburger

The Cheeseburger was so soft that I thought both the brioche bun and patty it had melted when I took my first bite. It also had an interesting take on the usual ketchup and mustard combination and instead opted for a homemade sriracha sauce which added a nice spice element.

Similarly delicious was The Peri-Peri Chicken Burger with a non-battered grilled chicken breast. Although nowhere as juicy as the previous burger, their special peri-peri mayonnaise sauce worked really well with the chicken breast.

Despite The Burger Coy being closed, I will always remember them as a no-frills, food-first experience with fair prices that reflect the quality and craft from them. Here’s hoping 2023 will see it open once again!
