The Whisking Well has permanently closed down on 6 Jan 2023 after 4 years of operations. They were known for their signature burnt cheesecake and Levain-style cookies.

The Whisking Well first started out life as a home-based business back in 2018 under a different name, and it was renamed during the pandemic in 2020. They moved to their very own kitchen at The Promenade in the same year.

In an interview with HungryGoWhere, owner Francesco Lee cited the rising costs of rental and ingredients as one of the reasons for ceasing operations. He also mentioned that his state of well-being pushed him to close the bakery as he had to work for long hours, especially in recent months.

His business partner, Jaz-ley Tan, who was The Whisking Well’s digital marketer behind its brand and aesthetics, pulled out of the business back in Apr 2022. This led to an increase in workload that Francesco had to see through alone.

With the closure, Francesco plans to travel for a few months and has also started a new home-based business, KingchiIt sells high-quality kimchi with ingredients and recipes from South Korea. He calls it “more of a passion project”.

When we went down to try their baked goods in 2021, we enjoyed their Original Burnt Cheesecake (S$42) and Banana Walnut Loaf Cake with Toffee Sauce (S$5.80). Their Levain-style cookies such as S’moreo Levain-Style Cookie (S$6.50) and Matcha Dulcey Cookie (S$6.50) also left a lasting impression on us.

Luckily, this isn’t the complete end of The Whisking Well as Francesco mentioned: “I’m still exploring opportunities and ideas for The Whisking Well.” Here’s to a comeback sooner than later!
