Singapore has long been recognised as a food haven, and now, our delectable local dishes will be available to residents and visitors of New York in the USA through the opening of Urban Hawker.

Urban Hawker is a food market curated and helmed by KF Seetoh, who is the founder of Makansutra, a company revolving around Asian food culture. Urban Hawker will feature 17 different vendors, 11 of which are directly from Singapore.

Urban Hawker, which boasts a 200 person capacity and a 14,000 square foot space, is located a few blocks away from Times Square in Manhattan at 135 West 50th Street. The food market had its soft opening to the public on 21 September 2022, with its official opening date being set for 28 September 2022.

The Makansutra website features a list of vendors that will be operating at Urban Hawker, such as Ashes Burnnit, a Malay burger hawker stall, and Daisy’s Dream, a Peranakan concept which started as a hawker stall and eventually expanded to becoming a restaurant.

The famous White Restaurant will also be serving up plates of its delicious bee hoon at Urban Hawker. For a Hainan Western meal, check out Smokin’ Joe, which originated as a stall in Yishun Park Hawker Centre.

Mamak’s Corner is another stall to look out for, offering Indian dishes like biryani, roti prata and murtabak. Finally, the iconic Wok & Staple by Dragon Phoenix will also be operating in Urban Hawker.
