This bar in Penang serves “Vaccine Cocktails”, but not the kind you’re thinking of

Much debate has surrounded the concept of “vaccine cocktails”, which is the idea of blending your vaccine shots, or getting injected with vaccines from two different brands for “enhanced immunity” which has yet to be proven. But unlike the “vaccine cocktail” I’m referring to here, Backdoor Bodega, a bar in Georgetown, Penang, serves up their own rendition of the aforementioned concoction.

“Vaccine cocktails”

The bottled cocktails are available in three tongue-in-cheek, vaccine-inspired flavours. The Pfizermeister (RM38, approx. S$12.15), probably potentially the most popular amongst Singaporeans, is a medley of Jägermeister, bourbon, hazelnut, Guinness Stout reduction, and Angostura Bitters. While the Sinosour (RM38, approx. S$12.15) should taste exactly as its namesake, combining Baijiu (Chinese white wine), Bacardi Carta Blanca, sour plum, peach, lager reduction, and citric solution.

While we may be familiar with the previous two vaccine inspirations behind the cocktails, the next one might not necessarily ring a bell, because the vaccine type is much less talked-about in Singapore. Alluding to the AstraZeneca vaccine, the ExtraGineca (RM38, approx. S$12.15) might just sound like the best of the lot. It combines Tanqueray London Dry Gin, Pimm’s, Luxardo Maraschino, dry vermouth, English Breakfast Tea, and Regan’s Orange Bitters.

The cocktails are all priced at RM38 (approx. S$12.15), but can be purchased in a bundle at RM100 (approx. S$31.97) for all three. Each bottle is good for two 50ml servings on the rocks, and Backdoor Bodega is currently offering free delivery to anywhere in Malaysia. They ship to Singapore as well for a delivery fee. There are limited quantities produced in small batches, so seven days is required for preparation and delivery.
