 “A Simple Family Staycation getaway”

There are not many hotels located in the east of Singapore, with most being found in the central region – Village Hotel Katong is the exception. Village Hotel Katong serves as the flagship Village hotel brand and reflects a Peranakan influence that is also distinct in the Joo Chiat and Katong area where the hotel is located.

Village Hotel Katong is integrated together with Katong V, a small retail mall also owned by the Far East group in a synchronized lifestyle amalgamation. If you have trouble finding Village hotel, just walk into Katong V which connets.

A fully carpeted lobby with hints of gold hues from the lights and black stripes display elegance and sophistication. For this review, I cover the Family Weekend Savers package to present something a little different that families can enjoy. So what’s included in the package? Read on…

Family Room

A simple room with 2 queen beds for a family of 4,  the room sizes range from 31 to 44 square metres which is ideal for families with kids and complete with complimentary wired Internet and Wi-Fi access and 46-inch LED TVs.

The room also comes with an accessible balcony which is surprisingly big actually, providing a lot of space for the kids to play outside.

A standing rain shower is also built-in to rejuvenate and relax family guests in a cozy and comfortable space.

Within Village Hotel Katong, basic gym and pool amenities are also available for a complete vacation experience.

Family Activities: Lilliput Indoor Mini Golf

As part of the Village Hotel Family Package, families get to pick either a 1 hour Quadcycle ride (fits 4), 2 hours inline skating or mini golf at Big Splash East Coast for a fun day of activities. The convenient shuttle bus from the hotel will take you to Big Splash and back hourly.

We decided to try out the Lilliput Indoor Mini golf which I felt would occupy the most time and was more interesting than the usual skating and biking. The activities coupon is only valid for 2 adults and 2 kids though, which wasn’t really prominently mentioned.

An interesting venue very popular with kids, there are 18 holes to hit in various mini stations featuring famous Singapore landmarks. There is no time limit, but each person gets 8 strokes per hole before calling it quits at that particular station. This is an important rule if you want to finish all 18 holes!

It’s really cute how the miniature scenarios are setup and the machinery that takes your golf ball to random spots. A chill game that everyone can enjoy and of course, yours truly discovers some hidden golfing talent after a mini golf session that would probably be useful when competing with 12 year olds.

Katong Kitchen

Breakfast for 4 is of course also included in the in-house restaurant, Katong Kitchen.

The spread is pretty wide while the setting is easy. The restaurant is also halal certified for our Muslim friends to enjoy.

A good spread of expected Western breakfast items like waffles and pancakes, as well as local items like prata, char kway teow and Otah, the breakfast here will please most fussy underaged eaters.

Part of the charm of having a staycation in Village Hotel Katong is the amazing heritage and dining attractions just a walk away at Katong Road. You will be spoilt for choice with the number and variety of dining options here, with one of my favorites 328 Katong Laksa being a must-try in the area.
