Haji Lane, home to many eclectic shops and quirky restaurants, has birthed yet another groovy food place called BERGS. For those who value the quality of their burgers and see the beauty in original burgers, take a trip down to Haji and take your pick from the array of burgers served at BERGS.

The setting of Bergs is mostly very homely and laid back, with their wooden furniture and light touch of batik design. The playful nature of this burger joint is apparent not only through the ‘BERGS’ scrawls on chalkboards and on funky posters, but through the cheeriness of the serving waiters.

The first burger we ordered was the joint’s most precious – Miss Piggy ($12.50). This adorable-sounding burger stuffed with a beef patty made from scratch, crispy streaks of bacon, melted cheese, tomato, lettuce and BERGS’ mysterious specialty sauce.
The amalgamation of flavours was rather glorious, coupled with the soft texture of the bun. If we had to note anything unfavourable about this specialty burger, it would be that the bottom bun gets a little soggy after a while from the sauce and patty juices.

We were provided with these thick-fingered chips ($6) and two cups of savoury sauces. The chips were crispy on the outside and had the consistency of mashed potatos within the crispiness. They complimented the burgers very nicely.

To ensure we had a good fix of most of the burgers at BERGS, we ordered a Burger Platter (3 for $15), wherein you can choose three different flavours of burgers and have these downsized but still scrumptious burgers served.

From left to right:
BERG with Cheese
This burger tasted similar to Miss Piggy except with no bacon and with a greater emphasis on cheese. If you are looking for a more traditional sort of cheeseburger, the BERG with Cheese is definitely the way to go.
Good Falla
For those who dedicate their lives to either a healthier lifestyle or to NO MEAT, BERGS offers vegetarian burgers like the Good Falla. The fresh vegetables like tomato, lettuce and avocado were highly refreshing and biting into this burger was like taking a breather from the meats.
The touch of lemon yoghurt in the burger provided a hint of zesty flavour that was also really lovely.
Porto Polo
Apart from beef patties, BERGS makes chicken patties. We tried the Porto Polo which was essentially tender chicken marinated in spicy Portugese marinade. The chefs at BERGS also used a homemade Peri-Peri sauce and this delighted me for this joint’s originality is definitely something to be commended.
The peppery flavour of the chicken patty was nicely balanced out with the crisp lettuce and moist tomato.

To end off our meal, we got ourselves two ice cream sandwiches – Peanut Butter & Chocolate Hazelnut ($7 each). The dark chocolate biscuits were sweet, chewy and they complimented the ice cream very nicely. The creamy ice cream was delightful and it provided a nice balance to the textures of this entire dessert dish.
Also, the peanut butter ice cream was probably the most favourable of the two for it had a slight twinge of salt which made the ice cream sandwich more savory.
Groovy music, homemade burgers, smiley people & Haji Lane-approved – BERGS is definitely worth a visit.
